Bombers and Soaring Eagles Win at Home; Hartwick Falls in Final Seconds
Ithaca 70, Houghton 56 (

The Ithaca College women's basketball team (8-3) tallied a 70-56 victory Tuesday evening over visiting Houghton (4-8) in Ben Light Gymnasium.
The Bombers claimed the first bucket of the contest at 17:41 to secure an indefinite lead. Ithaca jumped out to a 14-5 advantage, but an 8-1 run that followed pulled the Highlanders within one at 9:50. Ithaca answered with a 26-6 streak for a permanent double-digit lead. The Bombers led 45-26 at the half.
Houghton thrice crept within 12 in the second half, lastly with 57 ticks lingering in the game.
Ithaca shot 10 percent better than the Highlanders, hitting 45.8 percent from the floor. Houghton owned a 41-36 edge on the boards. The visiting squad turned the ball over 25 times to the Bombers' 15.

Elmira 81, Cazenovia 55 (

Maria Thannhauser scored a season high 19 points to lead the Elmira College women's basketball team to an 81-55 non-conference win over visiting Cazenovia College.
Elmira had three players finish with double figures tonight with Thannhauser leading the way on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, leading all scorers with 19 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
Jessica Zoltowski flirted with a triple-double tonight, recording 15 points, eight rebounds, and a career high seven assists.
Alex Balara was the other Soaring Eagle in double figures as she chipped in 14 points and five assists.
The Soaring Eagles never trailed in tonight's contest as they opened the game with an 8-0 run but the Wildcats were able to cut the Elmira lead to five points at the 6:33 mark, 25-20. However, offensive efficiency and tenacious defense by the Purple and Gold sparked an 18-0 run over the next four and half minutes, giving EC a commanding 43-20 lead, which would eventually turn into a 47-26 halftime advantage.
Elmira maintained their momentum in the second half, going up by as many as 31 points. Cazenovia would cut the EC lead to 18 points at the 4:22 mark but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get as Elmira closed out the game with an 11-3 run, sealing the 81-55 victory.

Vassar 67, Hartwick 65 (

Allyson Pemberton's 15-footer from the corner of the key with less than two seconds to play handed Vassar College a 67-65 non-conference basketball victory Tuesday night in Poughkeepsie. Trailing by three, the Hawks rallied to tie the game with 8.2 seconds to go on
Maria Foglia's three-point play. Following a timeout, Cydni Matsuoka drove the length of the floor and dished to Pemberton, who took a dibble, and hit the game-winning shot.
Foglia finished with a game-high 17 points for Hartwick.
Brittney Dumas added 16 points and
Taylor Vonasek tallied 11.
Lee Arduini netted nine.
The game was a matchup of two teams receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com national poll and was tight throughout the 40 minutes. In the second half alone, the lead changed hands eight times and the score was tight on six separate occasions.
The Hawks would shoot 41.4% (24-for-58) and 35.3% (6-for-17) from three-point range as a team. The Brewers shot 45.6% (26-for-57) from the floor and 54.5% (6-for-11) from downtown. They also held the edge on the glass, 36-31.
