Alfred Shuts out Fisher; Stevens Wins Eighth Straight

The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team kept their undefeated season alive Wednesday with a 6-3 win over Muhlenberg College.
The win moves Stevens' record to 8-0 while Muhlenberg dropped to 0-2.
The Ducks jumped out to lead early thanks to two straight wins to open doubles. Senior
Jessica Bourque and junior
Alexis Connor started the winning with an 8-2 win at No. 1 followed by an 8-3 win at No. 2 for senior
Danielle Stewart and freshman
Katrina Guido.
The win was the third of the season for Bourque and Connor while Stewart and Guido stayed perfect at 8-0.
After Muhlenberg rebounded with a win at third doubles, Bourque picked up a win at first singles when sophomore Sara Finger had to retire the match to extend the Stevens lead to 3-1. Muhlenberg rallied though, taking wins at No. 3 and No. 4, but Connor answered with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 followed by Stewart's third set tiebreaker win over senior Jennifer Goldberg at No. 2.
The win was Stewart's team-leading ninth of the season while Connor saw her singles record rise to 5-1.
ALFRED 9, ST. JOHN FISHER 0 BOX SCORE
The Alfred University women's tennis team shut out visiting Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon.
With the victory, AU improves to 4-3 in Empire 8 play. With a win over visiting Utica in their final conference match of the season Saturday afternoon, the Saxons would clinch a berth in the four-team Empire 8 championship tournament.

Emily Eisenberg took second doubles, 8-0; and senior

The Saxons also swept the singles matches. Ferguson won first singles, by forfeit; Cook won second singles, 6-1, 6-0; Jackson won took third singles, 6-4, 6-2; Eisenberg won fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1; senior
Courtney Smith won fifth singles, 6-2, 6-0; and junior
Kallie Clapper won fifth singles, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
Oneonta 9, HARTWICK 0
The host SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons won all nine matches on Wednesday in a 9-0 non-conference victory over Hartwick's women's tennis team. Hartwick slips to 5-5 overall. Oneonta improves to 3-7.
All three Hartwick doubles teams fell to their opponents by identical 8-3 scores.
Steph Luce took six games off her opponent at third singles. She dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Kelly Napolitano and
Kristen Napolitano each won four games. Kelly lost 6-3, 6-1 at second singles. Kristen lost at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-2.
