Ithaca Dominates Hamilton Invitational
Results
The Ithaca College men's cross country team took first place out of 17 teams at the Hamilton Invitational on Saturday Oct. 11. Four of the Bombers' seven leading runners finished in the top-ten out of 177 total competitors.
Junior
Sawyer Hitchcock paced the Bombers by clocking a time of 26:06.6 to finish fourth overall.
Sophomore
Sean Phillips finished close behind in 26:18.8 to place fifth.
Senior
Dennis Ryan and junior
Stephen Gomez also finished in the top ten for Ithaca. Ryan placed eighth in 26:29.4 and Gomez ranked nineth overall in 26:31.0.
Freshman
Tim Chappell crossed the finish line in 26:36.6 for the Bombers to earn a 12th place finish.
Sophomores
Paul Lapre and
Jesse Capellaro rounded out Ithaca's top seven with personal best times of 26:46.1 and 26:56.6. Lapre placed 15th and Capellaro placed 22nd overall.
The Hartwick men placed sixth at the event.
Hartwick seniors
Gavin Jenkins and
Matt Loignon both earned top 20 finishes on the day for the men's team, which beat out 11 different squads.
Jenkins placed 14
th. His time in the 8K was 26:37.7. Loignon was five spots behind him in 19
th. His final time was 26:51.1.
Chris Shaw placed 50
th in the race, which featured 177 competitors. His time was 27:56.3.
Tim Mahony and
Cody DeBernardis were 71
st and 72
nd, respectively.Chris Strachan was 80th, beating out 97 other athletes.
The Pioneers posted a score of 248 and an average time of 28:13 behind sophomore Erik Winberg's clock of 27:09.
Winberg crossed first for UC and 28th overall out of the 177 man. Senior Jamie McNamara trailed .30 behind Winberg with a time of 27:39 placing second for the Pioneers and 37thoverall. Freshman
Erik Gleba clocked the team average (28:13) as he finished 51st overall and third for Utica.
Junior Corey Zlatniski and freshman Brian Attas rounded out the Pioneer scorecard in fourth and fifth place. Zlatniski registered a time of 28:28 placing 54th overall followed by Attas who recorded a watch of 29:34, finishing 78th.
Timothy McGowan finished first for Houghton and 71st overall with a tiem of 29:13.1. Luke DeBoer was not too far behind finishing with a time of 29:27.7 and earning 76th.
