HOUGHTON
The Highlander Volleyball team had a solid performance in their dual match today, going 6-0 to sweep both the Alfred University Saxons and the Gators of Allegheny College.

In the first match against the Saxons, the Highlanders took charge from the very beginning—winning the first set by a large margin, 25-15.

While the second set was closer, the Highlanders were still able to shut down the Saxons 25-20. Houghton was able to go the distance and finish the match in 3 sets. The third and final set was a 25-23 victory for the Highlanders.

Defensively, Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) was credited with 12 digs, Hannah Compeau(Oxford, MI, Faith Christian) with 13, and Laurel Wroblicky (Irvine, CA, Northwood) with 20. Naomi Prentice(Linwood, NY, York Central) led the way with 12 kills, followed by Compeau with 7. Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) assisted with 31 Highlander kills.

Every Highlanders touched the court in the match; an all-around team effort.

For the second match of the day, Houghton continued their winning streak against Allegheny. While keeping the Gators' points in the teens, Houghton was able to take a 3 set victory (25-16, 25-16, 25-17).

Burgher earned a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs. Wroblicky contributed with an impressive 28 digs, followed by Alyssa Quimby (Northglenn, CO, Community Christian) with 11. Coryell had 28 assists in the match.

ITHACA
The Ithaca College volleyball team went undefeated in the final day of the Ithaca Invitational. The Bombers defeated Utica (25-16, 25-13, 25-13) in straight sets before taking down King's, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-9). The Bombers move to 18-4 on the season.
 
Ithaca started a new win streak Saturday afternoon, as the Bombers took down Utica, 3-0. SeniorRylie Bean led the team with 11 kills, while freshman Joelle Goldstein ranked second with nine kills on 17 attacks.
 
Freshman Kayla Gromen paced the Bombers once again with 29 assists in the straight-set victory. Sophomore Maggie Mutschler finished with a team high 13 digs, while Gromen and junior Dylan Gawinski Stern contributed 10 and seven, respectively.
 
Utica scored the first point of the opening set, but the Bombers took control shortly after to jump out to a 10-6 lead. Ithaca then went on a seven-point run, giving the Bombers a 17-6 advantage. Although Utica would rally late to put the score at 24-16, a kill from Goldstein marked the end of the first set with a 25-16 close.
 
Ithaca dominated in the middle frame, highlighted by a seven-point run late in the set to take a 24-12 lead over the Pioneers. Breanne Tuohy closed the set for the Bombers with a kill to put Ithaca up, 2-0.
 
Momentum carried into the final set for the Bombers, as they scored the first four points to jump out to an early lead. The Pioneers pressured following the opening run, and tied the set at 8-8. Ithaca scored the next three points and never looked back, closing the match on a seven-point run to earn the victory.
 
Ithaca earned its second-straight 3-0 victory on the day, as the Bombers took down the Monarchs of King's College in the final game of the Ithaca Invitational.
 
Bean once again paced the Bombers with 14 kills. Goldstein's nine kills ranked second in the match. Bean also led the Bombers with 15 digs, while Gromen ranked second with nine. Gromen dished out 28 assists, the most of any player in the match. Breanne Tuohy collected two blocks.
 
Ithaca faced little opposition against Kings, holding the Monarchs under 15 points in all three sets. An eight-point run in the first frame delivered the opening set to Ithaca, 25-14. Bean put the exclamation point on the second set for the Bombers, earning a kill for the final point in a 25-12 win. Ithaca made quick work in the third, using two separate six-point runs to take the final set, 25-9.


NAZARETH
Nazareth's women's volleyball team won its 10th consecutive match Saturday afternoon when the Golden Flyers swept Virginia Wesleyan by the scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 at the Leopard Invitational, hosted by La Verne University. Nazareth used a balanced scoring attack to overwhelm the Marlins as seven players finished with kills. Senior Kassandra Buseck had a match-high nine kills and three errors while classmate Olivia Harrigan tallied eight kills and only one hitting error.

With the victory, Nazareth improves to 18-5 overall. Virginia Wesleyan falls to 17-7 overall following the loss.

The Golden Flyers took control of the match early by pounding 11 kills and only two errors on 29 attempts for a .310 hitting percentage and allowing Virginia Wesleyan only six kills while forcing the Marlins into eight errors on 34 attempts for a -.059 attack percentage. Harrigan and Buseck each had three kills and no errors in the set to lead Nazareth.

In the second set, the Golden Flyers continued to force the Marlins into hitting errors. Virginia Wesleyan tallied only three kills and committed seven errors for a -.182 hitting percentage. Nazareth, meanwhile, tallied 10 kills and only three hitting errors on 18 attempts for a .389 hitting percentage. Buseck, Allocco, and Harrigan combined for all 10 of the Golden Flyers' kills and committed only two hitting errors.

In the third set, five different Nazareth players recorded kills. Junior Jennifer Hicks had a team-leading three kills while sophomore Cady Messmer, Harrigan, Buseck, and Allocco each had two kills. The Golden Flyers finished with a .211 attack percentage with their 11 kills and three errors on 38 attempts. The Marlins finished the set with eight kills and eight errors on 39 attempts.

Nazareth forced many hitting errors with blocks at the net. Hicks had a solo block and eight assisted blocks while Allocco had a solo block and three assisted blocks. Harrigan and Buseck each tallied five solo blocks, and sophomore Madi Wickens added an assisted block. Wickens finished with a match-high 23 assists for Nazareth's attack, too. Messmer and classmate Maureen Thayer each tallied 11 digs while Harrigan added 10 digs.

Against La Verne, Buseck amassed a team-high 12 kills with three attack errors, however, the Golden Flyers were held to 32 total kills. Wickens finished with a match-high 26 assists directing Nazareth's attack. Allocco finished with six kills while Hicks and Harrigan recorded five kills apiece. Messmer and Wickens also chipped in an additional three kills and one kill, respectively. The Golden Flyers had 14 kills in the opening set and finished the stanza with a .220 attack percentage. The Golden Flyers had nine kills in the second set with an attack percentage of .083, then they had an additional nine kills in the third set for an attack percentage of .160. The Leopards finished with four solo blocks and 14 assisted blocks to frustrate Nazareth's attack.

Defensively, Harrigan had a team-high eight digs, and Thayer added seven digs. Hicks and Allocco each had a solo block and an assisted block for Nazareth at the net. With at least 13 kills in each set, La Verne recorded hitting percentages of .257, .483, and .286. Brittney Yaxley had a match-high 14 kills to lead the Leopards.


STEVENS
 The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team had its 11-match winning streak snapped after defeating Gettysburg College in a tri-match at Stevenson University on Saturday. Stevens (19-4) swept Gettysburg, but fell to the host Stevenson in the final match of the day.

The Ducks took down Gettysburg, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21, but came up short against the Mustangs, 28-26, 25-20, 25-20.

In the opener, freshman Brianna Evans (Spokane, Wash.) paced all players with 14 kills to go along with 10 digs. Evans also recorded five total blocks.

Sophomore Mary Tobin (Boothwyn, Pa.) tallied 12 kills on a .333 hitting percentage with 11 digs, while classmateChristina Sciarra (Montclair, N.J.) guided the Ducks with a .346 clip on nine kills in 26 swings.

Senior Ashley Castillo (Cresskill, N.J.) dished out 35 assists, while freshman Sydni Horner (Columbia, Md.)contributed 22 digs.

The Ducks struggled offensively against Stevenson, hitting just .187 to .266.

Tobin led the way with 12 kills to go along with nine digs, while Castillo handed out 27 more assists with nine digs.

Senior Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) posted a .364 hitting percentage with six kills in 11 swings, while Evans added seven more kills to her day with 10 digs and six service aces.

Horner posted a team-high in the match with 17 digs, while Sciarra registered five kills.

Junior Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) stepped in defensively with nine digs.


ALFRED
The Alfred University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set losses during its Saturday morning trip to Houghton College for a tri-match between the host Highlanders (13-9, 3-3 Empire 8) and the Gators (15-9, 1-3 NCAC) of Allegheny College.
 
The Saxons (4-20, 0-6 Empire 8) posted strong second and third set scores against the home team, Houghton during the 10am match, falling 25-15, 25-20, 25-23 to the Highlanders.
 
Jacquelynn Hicks and Mary Lou Patnaude both buried seven attacks to the opponent's court each. Taylor Kiernan led the low game for the Saxons with 16 digs and was followed by Patnaude's 10. Hicks also tacked on another three points to her seven from kills with three aces, leading the team with 10 of their 28 points.
 
We rallied to play against Allegheny and after a slow first match start," said the Saxons' head coach. "We certainly turned it around to give Allegheny a run for their money. Our defense got stronger in the second match, which is why our offense was able to spread out more and give a stronger showing."
 
A consistency between both matches was setter Aubrey Totsline's assists. Totsline recorded 20 in the day's opener and added another 17 in the nightcap.
 
Chelsea Pietrzykowski garnered the day's high with eight kills from her 17 attacks. After a morning match that only saw two assisted blocks, Pietrzykowski stuffed two by herself while Hicks added one solo block in the afternoon showing. Five players had two kills in the second match.
 
Valerie Cardillo recorded 16 digs against the Gators while Kiernan added nine on the day. Cardillo also had two perfect serves for aces while Kiernan, Patnaude and Jessica Scoones added aces in the contest.
 
Naomi Prentice led Houghton's match with 12 kills, Anna Coryell posted 31 assists and Hannah Compeau reached for 13 digs during the morning match.
 
Sarah Swartz and Bailey Gawley each had eight kills in the afternoon meeting, Justine Kelly had 26 helpers and Catherine Kasianowicz led the diggers with 18.


UTICA
The Utica College volleyball team lost a pair of games at the Ithaca College Invitational on Saturday.  The Pioneers dropped game one 3-0 to host Ithaca (25-16, 25-13, 25-13) before losing 3-0 in the nightcap against Carnegie Mellon (25-17, 25-18, 25-16). Utica's Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit)collected a team-high 14 kills, four digs, three blocks and one assist over the course of both games to pace the Pioneers.

Utica's record moved to 8-15 overall on the year and the Pioneers will return home on Wednesday night, after playing their last 13 games on the road, when they host Hamilton College (7 p.m.) at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium. 

Utica's Alaina Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) finished the day with 15 digs, 12 kills, three assists and two blocks, while Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) added 10 kills, three digs and two blocks for the Pioneers.  UC's Laura Allen compiled 29 assists and 13 digs in the two game stretch, while senior Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) chipped in with a team-high 26 digs. 

Ithaca improved to 17-4 on the season, as Carnegie Mellon advanced its record to 16-4. 

Homer-Gunther paced the Pioneers with seven kills against the host Bombers in game one, while Wickwire added ten digs and four kills.  Blaszak fired home five kills and Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) tallied nine digs in the Pioneer loss.

In game two against Carnegie Mellon, Wickwire led the way with eight kills and she added five digs, while Home-Gunther posted seven kills and three blocks.  Allen had 21 assists against the Terriers.
