Five ECAC Athletes of the Week
Five Empire 8 Athletic Conference student-athletes have been honored as the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northwest, Upstate and Mid-Atlantic Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of Oct. 6-12, 2014.
Field Hockey – Mid-Atlantic
Offensive Player of the Week:
Hannah Mackey – Utica College, Sr., F, Locke, N.Y.
Mackey scored seven goals as Utica went 3-0 last week. On Wednesday, she tied her season-high of four goals in Utica's 6-1 win over Brockport. She followed that up with two goals in the Pioneers' 3-2 win over Ithaca on Saturday. Mackey capped off the week with the opening goal in a 4-1 win over Stevens.
Women’s Soccer – Upstate
Offensive Player of the Week:
Kelsey King – Ithaca College, Jr., F, Coopersburg, Pa.
King led the Bombers to a 2-0 record with wins over Utica and Nazareth. King scored twice in Ithaca’s 4-0 victory over the Pioneers. She recorded a goal and assisted on the Bombers’ overtime goal against Nazareth, giving her seven points over the last two games.
Rookie of the Week:
Lindsey Mahnken – Stevens Institute of Technology, Fr., GK, Bayville, N.J.
Freshman Lindsey Mahnken earned both wins this weekend for Stevens in 135 minutes played. In a 3-1 triumph over Houghton, Mahken made nine saves and then recorded one in a 5-0 shutout against Alfred University the following day.
Men’s Soccer - Upstate
Co-Defensive Player of the Week:
Jordan Gentile – Ithaca College, Sr., GK, Syracuse, N.Y.
Gentile tallied 11 saves over two games last week. The senior goalkeeper posted a shutout over Utica, making seven stops in net.
Football - Northwest
Defensive Player of the Week
Mitch Thomas, Buffalo State, Junior, FS, Buffalo, N.Y.
Thomas racked up a team-high 11 tackles to go with a pair of interceptions in Buffalo State's 38-27 victory at No. 13 Ithaca on Saturday. His first interception came in the end zone in the second quarter, thwarting an Ithaca scoring opportunity. The safety then put the game out of reach when he returned his second interception 26 yards for a touchdown to give the Bengals a 38-17 lead.
