SJFC Women's Soccer Raises $1,500 For Pancreatic Cancer Research
The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team hosted a "pie in the face" fundraiser in the academic quad on Thursday, Oct. 16 to support pancreatic cancer research. Coaches, faculty, and staff generously donated their time, taking pies in the face for the excellent cause from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Last season the women's soccer team began what it hoped would become a yearly tradition holding the first-ever pancreatic cancer soccer game in memory of Mike McCabe, the late brother of head Coach,
Jill McCabe, who passed away from the disease in 2009. The team set up various fundraising tactics including hosting a pie in the face fundraiser exclusively for family and friends, donating all the money to pancreatic cancer research.
This season the soccer team decided to expand its fundraising efforts to the Fisher community, raising over 1,500 dollars with the pie fundraiser which it will donate to the Lustgarten foundation. Cablevision, who also endured a loss of a top executive to pancreatic cancer, supports this foundation by underwriting all the operational expenses to ensure that 100% of every dollar donated goes to pancreatic cancer research to eventually find a cure! Fisher will be hosting its 2nd Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness game on Tuesday, October 21st when it will take on Elmira College at 7 p.m.
