ALFRED & NAZARETH
The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2014-15 season with a 140-102 win over visiting Nazareth on Saturday.
  
AU got six individual race wins – two each by seniors Dave Coombes and Zac Toth – and also swept the two relays.
  
Coombes won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.18) and 100-yard free (56.22) and Toth took the 200-yard indovodual medley (2:02.86) and 100-yard butterfly (54.29).
  
Senior Dave Luke won the 50-yard free (21.81) and senior Joseph Rogers took the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.82).
  
Other top swimmers for AU included freshman Alec Toth, second in both the 500 free (5:13.02) and 1,000-yard free (10:50.80); senior Jeff Rowland, second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.83); junior Jake Olsen (Dansville, NY/Dansville), second in the 10-yard backstroke), 57.89); and sophomore Derek Ciraolo, second in the 100-yard free (52.37).
  
The team of Alec Toth, senior Jeff Rowland, Zac Toth and Luke won the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.59); Luke, freshman Joseph Lawrence, Rogers and Coombes won the 200-yard free relay (1:28.32).

Nazareth freshmen Zachary Fink and Andrew Closson placed second and third, respectively, in the diving events behind Green. Fink tallied 185.75 points in the three-meter event and 190.45 in the one-meter event. Closson had 177.85 points in the three-meter and 189.5 points in the one-meter.

Junior Dan Burke took first-place in the 100-yard backstroke (:55.11) and second in the 200-yard IM (2:05.34). Freshman Gannon Connors followed Burke in the 100 with a third-place finish and time of :59.05. Freshman Ibrahim Stungurys was the first to touch the wall in the 100-yard breaststroke as he finished in 1:06.29, while classmate Nicholas Mooney was third in the event with a time of 1:08.56.

Additional top performers for the men's team included junior Sean Doyle, who took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.78 and third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :52.59. Freshman Andrew Battaglia was second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:44.04) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.00). Sophomore Matt Leverichfinished moments before Battaglia in the 500 event with a third-place time of 5:15.11.
  

ITHACA
The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team totaled 14 first-place finishes, including 12 individual top times, in the season-opening tri-meet against Brockport and Fredonia at the A&E Aquatics Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. 

The Bombers earned their first of 14 first-place times in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Ben KennedyLucas ZelehowskyConnor Schroyer and Logan Metzger earned the top spot, finishing in a time of 1:37.34.  Metzger and Schroyer also took part in the 200-yard freestyle relay, joining Jonathan Wheeler and Adam Zelehowsky on the top finishing team in a time of 1:26.90.  

The Zelehowsky brothers combined for five individual first-place finishes, as Adam took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.77), 50-yard freestyle (21.85) and 500-yard freestyle (5:01.13), while Lucas completed the 100-yard butterfly in 52.80 and the 50-yard butterfly in 23.98.

Aiden Hartswick earned a trio of top times, touching the wall first in the 50-and-100-yard breaststroke in 28.04 and 1:01.01, respectively, and wrapped up the 200-yard IM in 2:03.24. Metzger also captured a pair of individual first-place finishes, completing the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 25.57 and the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 54.51.      

Addison Hebert also earned a victory for the Bombers, taking first with a time of 48.98 in the 100-yard freestyle.

In the diving events, Ithaca's Matt Morrison took first in 1-meter diving with a final score of 294.90, while placing third in 3-meter diving.  


HARTWICK

On Saturday Hartwick's swimming and diving teams opened their seasons with the ninth annual Hartwick Relays. The Hartwick men came away with a first-place finish as a team.
           
The men finished the day with 118 points, in front of second-place St. Rose (100), Le Moyne (94), Oneonta (82), Cobleskill (36), and Wells (8). 
 
The 'Wick men placed first in a total of six races on the day. Senior Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School), junior Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City), and sophomores Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield), Brian Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central), Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores), andBrendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) each were a part of three wining efforts for the Hawks.
