Ducks Advance To E8 Final

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 18, 2014) – The top seeded Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team advanced to the Empire 8 Championship final Saturday with a 5-1 win over No. 4 Alfred University.
The win moved Stevens' record to 11-0 while Alfred dropped to 7-6.
The Ducks jumped out to an early lead with senior
Jessica Bourque and junior
Alexis Connor's 8-1 win at first doubles, followed by sophomore
Allie Masciana and junior
Julia Guignard's 8-2 win at No. 3. The win was Bourque and Connor's sixth of the season together while Masciana and Guignard moved to 4-2.
At second doubles, senior
Danielle Stewart and freshman
Katrina Guido fell behind 1-6 before rallying to make it 6-7. Alfred seniors Brennan Ferguson and Emily Eisenberg recovered though, taking the 8-6 win to clinch Alfred's first point of the match.
The loss was the first of the season for the Ducks duo.
Stevens continued the winning once singles started, first with Bourque's straight set win over Ferguson at first singles, followed by Guidnard's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. Stewart followed by clinching the match for the Ducks at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over junior Rachel Cook.
The Ducks will look for their first ever Empire 8 Championship tomorrow when they battle either No. 2 Ithaca College or No. 3 Elmira College at 11 a.m. Follow @Lady_Ducks on Twitter to track the team directly during tomorrow's match.
