Stevens Rolls Past UC in Empire 8 Action

The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team remained undefeated in Empire 8 Conference play with a sweep at Utica College on Friday.
 
Stevens is now 25-4 on the season and 6-0 in the Empire 8 heading into a pivotal tri-match tomorrow at Ithaca College. The Ducks, Ithaca and Nazareth College all hold the same conference mark for tomorrow's tri-match. Utica moved its record moved to 9-20 overall and 1-5 in the Empire 8. 
 
The Ducks cruised by Utica, 25-9, 25-12, 25-15, and hit .284 with eight service aces.
 
Sophomore Mary Tobin posted the lone double-double of the match with 11 kills and 10 digs. Tobin led all players in kills and swung at a .286 clip with two aces.
 
Senior Katie Hall and junior Annemarie Thomas each hit .375 with four kills. Hall added two aces.
 
Sophomore Christina Sciarra chipped in six kills, five digs and two aces, while freshman Sydni Horner posted a match-high 17 digs.
 
Senior Ashley Castillo handed out 19 assists with an ace and junior Catie Shelton dishes out 10 assists to go along with five digs.

Utica was led by seven kills from Brandi Blazek, while freshman Samantha Hoerning chipped in with five kills of her own.  Lora Allen  registered 18 assists, while Briona Enny added eight digs.
