MXC Competes at States; Lock Haven
With one week to go before all teams are in action at Saratoga Spa State Park for the Empire 8 Conference Championships, teams used today as a final tune up. Five teams ran at the NYSCTC Championship in Rochester, NY, while Houghton College rank at Lock Haven.
Ithaca placed third in the team standings out of 11 teams, led by junior Sawyer Hitchcock who was the individual runner up in a time of 25:46. Sophomore Sean Phillips placed sixth (26:23) followed by Paul Lapre who finished 14th (26:58) and Dennis Ryan (16th - 27:02) and Tim Chappell (17th - 27:04).
Utica College took sixth as a team led by sophomore Josh Lee who placed 27th overall with a time of 27:38. Senior Jamie McNamara was 33rd at 27:57 and Corey Zlatniski was 40th in 28:27.
St. John Fisher College enjoyed its best finish at the NYSCTC Championship in the program's history, as the Cardinals placed ninth overall on Saturday. Senior
Evan Magnussen led the way for Fisher, placing 22nd overall out of 120 racers with a time of 27:34. Freshman
James Felice was 36th overall at 28:08. Underclassmen
Alex Schmitt (50th),
Dan Cleary (52nd) and
Noah Michaels (53rd) ran in a strong pack, finishing in 28:58, 29:03 and 29:07, respectively.
Nazareth's men's team finished 10th overall with a combined score of 283. Freshman
Kevin Witt finished 44th on top for Nazareth in the 8-kilometer race with a time of 28:43.5. Junior
Patrick Neureuter finished 47th as the second Golden Flyer closely behind Witt with a time of 28:48.4.
Alfred was paced by Kevin Dixon who crossed the finish line 29th in a time of 27:48. Roder Mathew was the next Saxon at 55th in 29.11.

Jonathan Lewis was the top Houghton finisher for the Highlander men's cross country team Saturday at Lock Haven University.
The men finished 13th out of 16.
The meet completed Houghton's regular season campaign, as they now prepare for the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1.
In the men's 8K race, Lewis was 105th in 29:27, with Charles Easttey just behind in 108th in 29:33. Luke DeBoer (120th in 30:00) and Aaron Eisenhardt (122nd in 30:07) each had personal bests, as did Terry Krangar (136th in 30:39) and Jackson Baker (161st in 32:59).
