2014-15 Season Preview

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 25, 2014)
 – Sophomore Danielle Caruso won three events to help lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team to a 146-116 win over NCAA Division I and in-state rival Saint Peter's University Saturday afternoon in a packed DeBaun Aquatic Center.
 
Stevens opened by taking second and third place in the 200-yard medley relay, totaling six points. Senior Sharon Rooker, senior Brittany Geyer, senior Maria McClure and junior Jennifer Rutledge teamed for the second-place finish, clocking a 1:53.41.
 
Caruso's first win of the afternoon came in the 1,000-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 10:32.16 and setting a new pool-record in the process. Junior Elizabeth Heinbach took third, carding a 11:02.17. Caruso came right back for a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, touching at 1:57.14, with senior Nicole Miller placing third with a time of 2:01.19.

Rooker nabbed the top-spot in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.29), while freshman Abigail Kuhn was third in her first collegiate placement.
 
Geyer pocketed the first win of her senior season in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a 1:07.36 and earning nine team points in the process. Freshman Kaitlyn Prescott was third with a 1:11.62. Heinbach and freshman Sarah Jurczyk placed second and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.68, 2:16.92), while Rutledge and sophomore Nicole Regenauer did the same in the 50-yard freestyle (25.68, 26.84).
 
Miller and rookie Meghan Randle were second and third in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking times of 55.73 and 57.31, respectively. Kuhn earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke thanks to a 2:14.78, with second-year swimmer Claire Hendershot earning third via her 2:17.74.
 
Geyer's second win of the afternoon set a new pool-record in the 200-yard breaststroke. The veteran finished with a time of 2:25.79. Caruso's final individual win of the meet came in the 500-freestyle as the sophomore turned in a 5:13.18, and junior Katlyn Christenson was third in the event with a time of 5:25.70.
 
Rooker and McClure went two-three in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.96, 1:03.20), with Christenson and Geyer doing the same in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.71, 2:15.96).
 
In the final event of the day, the Ducks were second and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Caruso, Rooker, Randle and Miller combined for a time of 3:40.90 in touching number two.
 
Stevens returns to action November 7 and 8 when it visits New York University for the NYU Fall Invitational against the Violets and SUNY New Paltz.
