Bombers and Golden Flyers in NSCAA National Poll

The Ithaca College and Nazareth College women's soccer teams are representing the Empire 8 in the national rankings.  The Bombers stand at No. 14, followed by the Golden Flyers at No. 19 in the latest release of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Poll.

Ithaca (13-2, 7-1) moved up three spots to No. 14 after a 2-0 week. Ithaca recorded a 3-0 victory over Oneonta last Tuesday. Junior Kelsey King, sophomore Holly Niemiec and freshman Caroline Matos all scored for the Bombers, while goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia stopped all three Red Dragon shots she faced for her ninth shutout of 2014.

The Bombers pulled out a 2-1 win over Hartwick Saturday, as Ithaca used two second half goals to defeat the Hawks. The win secures home field advantage for the Bombers in the Empire 8 playoffs, marking the third-straight year the conference tournament will be held at Carp Wood Field.
 
Sophomore Taylor Baranowsky and junior Sarah Woychick each scored for the Bombers in the conference victory. 
 
Ithaca's next game is Oct. 29, as the Bombers head to Misericordia to finish out the regular season. 

Nazareth is 12-3-1, including a mark of 7-1 in conference play. The Golden Flyers went 2-0 last week and moved up three spots in the national poll. 

Nazareth outscored visiting Alfred 6-1 last Tuesday evening. The Golden Flyers scored the first four goals before allowing a goal after an Alfred corner kick. The Golden Flyers scored the last two goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation for the five-goal victory.

Nazareth closed out its E8 schedule Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Utica for a 3-0 victory to secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Nazareth unleashed 24 shots at the Pioneer goalkeeper broke through five minutes before halftime as freshman Rachel Dise netted her third goal of the season. The Golden Flyers continued to dominate in the second half as graduate student Christine Belding scored her seventh goal of the season in the 64th minute and junior Danielle Wilkin then completed the scoring in the 74th minute.

Nazareth has a pair of non-conference regular-season road games remaining -- Today, Oct. 28 at William Smith at 4 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 1 at Skidmore at 12 p.m.
