Ithaca & Utica Win on Road; Stevens & Fisher Win at Home
ITHACA 2, ELMIRA 1
The Ithaca College field hockey team pulled out a win over Elmira Saturday afternoon, as the Bombers defeated the Soaring Eagles by a score of 2-1 at the Murray Athletic Center. Ithaca's victory improves the team's record to 5-5 overall, including a mark of 3-1 in Empire 8 play.
Sophomore
Colleen Keegan-Twombly scored both of the Bombers' goals in the victory, while sophomore goalkeeper
Katie Lass made four saves on five Elmira shots. Ithaca dominated in the shot department, totaling 29 shots to Elmira's six. The Bombers also dominated in penalty corners, earning 14 to the Soaring Eagles' two.
Keegan-Twombly scored her first of the game at 3:55, taking a pass from classmate
Cassie Schuttrumpf in front to give Ithaca the 1-0 advantage. Keegan-Twombly struck again in the first half, as she netted her second of the contest in the 28th minute. Freshman
Amanda Schell started the play with a pass in front, finding Keegan-Twombly for the score. Keegan-Twombly's tally marked her first career two-goal game, while Schell's assist pushed her point streak to two games.
Elmira finally got on the board in the 59th minute, as the Soaring Eagles scored on a scrum in front to cut the Bombers' lead to 2-1.
Lass and the Ithaca defense shut out Elmira for the remainder of the contest, giving the Bombers a 2-1 win.
UTICA 5, NAZARETH 1
The Utica College field hockey extended its winning streak to seven games as the Pioneers topped host Nazareth College 5-1 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon. The nation's leading goal scorer,
Hannah Mackey, led the Pioneers with two goals, while
Nikki Kieffer,
Becki Vivacqua and
Chasity Eckert also added goals for the Pioneers.
Utica, which is receiving votes in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Poll, improved to 9-1 overall and remained undefeated with a 4-0 record in Empire 8 play. Nazareth's record moved to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in E8 play.
Mackey (21 goals) is now eyeing down College's single-season record for goals which is currently held by teammate
Louise Steele-Norton, who tallied 27 goals back in 2012 on her way to earning All-American honors.
Mackey opened the scoring on the afternoon with her conference best 20
th goal of the season to put the Pioneers on top 1-0 in the seventh minute of action. Nazareth's Cathy Stahl responded by knotting the score at 1-1 in the 20
th minute off an assist from Catherine Willard.
Just over two minutes later the Pioneers took the lead back when Kieffer netted her second of the season to put UC on top 2-1 at 21:22. The Pioneers would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest, outscoring the home team 4-0 in the final 48:38 of action.
Vivacqua added her fifth of the season before the half to give UC a 3-1 lead as the halftime horn sounded.
Chasity Eckert netted her eighth goal of the year to open the second half and Mackey added an insurance tally in the 64
th minute. Utica's
Alaina Stojkovski assisted on Mackey's second goal of the afternoon.

th career victory, stopping one shot, in the cage for Utica.
Nazareth goalie Shannon Winney stopped 14 shots in the loss for the Golden Flyers. The Pioneers outshot Naz 27-2 and also earned an 8-2 penalty corner advantage.
STEVENS 7, HARTWICK 1
The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team improved to 2-2 in the Empire 8 (5-7 overall) with a 7-1 win over Hartwick College in a heavy rain Saturday at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The Ducks came out on fire, scoring twice just 6:52 into the action and 1:07 apart. The first tally came from freshman forward
Victoria Alvarez. On the play, the rookie deflected in a shot from junior captain
Erin Silvestri after receiving a penalty-corner-insert from classmate
Dailyn Brook. Both Brook and Silvestri were credited with assists on the play.
Alvarez also scored the second Stevens goal, this one on the back of a cross from sophomore
Nolie Prouty with 28:08 to go in the opening period. The marker was the 11th of the year for the Duck freshman.
The lead moved to three goals exactly 24:00 minutes into the game when sophomore
Taylor Welch knocked in her sixth of the season. Welch was able to deflect in a shot from Silvestri after the junior received another insert from Brook. Once again, Brook and Silvestri earned assists on the play.
Stevens ended the first half with a 12-3 margin in shots and a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners, dominating field position and possession throughout the period.
The hosts' advantage quickly increased with Welch's second of the game after junior back Angela Bauroth controlled the ball after a scrum and made a perfect pass to Welch off the right post.
The Ducks' fifth goal of the match came via a converted stroke by Brook, and senior forward
Jillian Fiebel tallied the next two. On her first, the veteran carried into the left side of the circle before sneaking her shot inside the left post. The second came thanks to a cross in front from Brook.
Alvarez, Welch and Fiebel all scored twice with Brook recording three assists and one goal on the day for a total of five points. Seven total players pocketed points as the Ducks finished the game with a 26-4 margin in shots and 17-2 edge in penalty corners.
Sophomore goalie Emily Stukenborg earned the win in goal, making three saves in her 57-plus minutes in the cage.
ST. JOHN FISHER 4, HOUGHTON 0
Elizabeth Cusack recorded the second hat-trick in the four-year history of the program as the St. John Fisher College field hockey team defeated visiting Houghton College 4-0 on Saturday.
The Cardinals dominated the offense with 35 total shots in the full 70 minutes, yet the first half remained scoreless.
Stacie Skidmore opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with Cusack earning the assist on the goal.
Cusack tallied the first of her three goals less than 30 seconds later to give Fisher a 2-0 lead. Her following two goals came in the 51st and the 53rd minutes, both off of rebounds.
Cusack leads the Cardinals in total goals on the season with 12 while Skidmore has made seven. Freshman
Emily Markarian recorded the first hat-trick on Sept. 13 against Stevens Institute of Technology.
Danielle Famolaro spent 59 minutes in goal and stopped three shots, before
Amanda Maciol made her first collegiate appearance for the remaining 11 minutes.
