Shutouts for Naz, Stevens and Houghton; Fisher's Alloco Nets Hat Trick
STEVENS 1, ITHACA 0
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team shutout No. 20 Ithaca College in an Empire 8 Conference tilt at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Saturday to improve its record to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8.
Saturday's victory for Stevens is the first-ever over Ithaca at home since joining the conference in 2007. Coming into today's match, Ithaca had surrendered just three goals in nine matches.
The Ducks established a few opportunities to put a goal on the board within the first 25 minutes of the match, with their best attempt coming off a long centering pass from sophomore Gabby Mathelier at the 24:13 mark. Mathelier's service was nearly headed into goal by sophomore Raba Nassif, but play was blown dead on an offsides call.
Stevens continued to create multiple chances to score after the offsides and finally came through with the first goal of the contest off the left foot of Nassif in the 28th minute.
After Stevens took the lead its defense stepped up and kept Ithaca away from any chances to send in an equalizer. The Bombers never took a shot after the ninth minute and only attempted two in the first half.
In the second half, Stevens proved to be the more dominant team on Saturday. The Ducks ripped off 11 more shots to six for the Bombers.
Nassif put three shots on goal in the first seven minutes of the second half but was unable to pad Stevens' lead. Those three shots on target were followed up by a near deposit into the top left corner from senior Mariah Cleveland with just over 25 minutes left in regulation, but her strike curved wide of frame.
The Bombers did, however, have another chance to knot the contest at 1-1 on a corner with 20 minutes left. After the service, the loose ball trickled towards goal but junior Carly Bean was waiting on the goal line to clear it away.
Nine minutes later, Ithaca's Lauren Steele brought the ball down the left side of the field and ripped a shot towards the bottom corner, but freshman Lindsey Mahnken made a sprawling save to her right to preserve the shutout.
Mahnken made four saves in the game for her fourth shutout of the season and seventh win.
NAZARETH 3, ELMIRA 0
Senior Elizabeth Howell scred two goals and junior Danielle Wilkin also scored for visiting Nazareth in the second half Saturday as the Golden Flyers remained unbeaten in Empire 8 Conference women's soccer action with a 3-0 victory over Elmira.
It was the third straight shutout for the Golden Flyers, who have now gone more than 300 minutes without yielding a goal. Nazareth improved to 8-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8. Elmira is 3-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Saturday's game was scoreless in the first half, then Nazareth turned up the tempo in the second half by outshooting Elmira 17-3 while scoring all three goals. The Golden Flyers applied significant pressure to start the half and Howell broke through in the 52nd minute off an assist from junior Briana Vibbard.
Exactly 19 minutes later, Wilkin was opportunistic as she stripped an Elmira defender of the ball and fired a shot that caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and crossed the goal line. Howell's second goal of the game and fourth of the season came in the 87th minute and helped by sophomore Michaela Soules, who has a team-best five assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Allison Dobles made four saves for her third shutout of the season. Nazareth had a 26-8 edge in shots overall and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Gabe Carmona made 10 saves for Elmira.

.

HOUGHTON 6, Lancaster Bible 0
Sarah Gabriele tallied two goals and an assist to lead Houghton women's soccer to a 6-0 Homecoming win over Lancaster Bible College on Saturday.
It didn't take long for the Highlanders to get on the board as Gabriele picked up a loose ball in front of the goal and put it in the back of the net with just under four minutes gone. Though they outshot the Chargers, 12-4, in the first half, the Highlanders would only take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
But the second half was a different story as the hosts exploded for 18 more shots and five goals to grab the convincing win. Freshman Alexis Lamb scored just 50 seconds into the second half and then Lamb assisted Darlene Eckhardt just six minutes later for the third Highlander goal. Gabriele got her second just over a minute later off an assist from Eckhardt. Freshman Nikki Garns scored her first career goal in the 71st minute, before Stephany Ellison tallied her team-leading 11th goal of the campaign in the 83rd minute.
