Stevens Edges Ithaca; Alfred Secures E8 Bid; Elmira Wins Fifth Straight
ELMIRA 8, NAZARETH 1
The Elmira College women's tennis team continues its dominant run through the Empire 8 Conference as the Soaring Eagles defeated Nazareth College, 8-1, for their fifth consecutive win. EC moves to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play heading into their final match of the regular season.
Today's match also marked two items that neither team has encountered in quite some time. EC's 8-1 win marks the first win over a Nazareth women's tennis team since before the 2000 season, a stretch of 20 matches including the postseason. Additionally, with Elmira's victory, Nazareth has been eliminated from Empire 8 Tournament contention, the first time in program history that the Golden Flyers will miss the conference tournament.

ALFRED 9, UTICA 0
The Alfred University women's tennis team shut out visiting Utica, 9-0, in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Saxons secured the school's first-ever berth in the four-team Empire 8 championship tournament.
AU improved to 6-5 overall and finished its Empire 8 slate with a 5-3 league mark. The top four teams make the tournament, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA championships. AU, which can finish no worse than fourth in the conference, has competed in the past in the E8 championships, when all league schools made the field. This marks the first time AU has qualified since the league made it a four-team championship.
