Cardinals Win Ninth Straight ECAC Championship
Nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College won its ninth consecutive ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Men's Golf Championship on Sunday at Blue Heron Hill Country Clube. The Cardinals, ranked 12th nationally, shot a 289 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 581 (292-289), good for a 38-stroke victory over runner-up New York University.
Chris Blyth was the championship's medalist, shooting 71 for the second straight day.
Corey Haas (74-72-146) and
Hogan Cuny (73-73-146) both finished in second place overall, while
Karl Deuble shot a 73 on Sunday and placed fourth overall (74-73-147).
Elmira concluded the championship in fifth place with a team score of a 647.
Evan Clarke'15 led the Soaring Eagles with a two-over-par 73 today and a two-day total of a 149 to finish tied for fifth.
Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 finished tied for 25th with a two day total of a 160 while
Troy Gordon '15 carded a tournament total of a 169 to finish tied for 43rd.
Jessy Lawson '16 finished the weekend tied for 47th with a 171 while
Brandon Payne '17 tallied a 179 to place tied for 57th.
The Golden Flyers sliced 19 strokes off their first-round team score to post a second-round score of 330 for a two-day total of 679, good for 10th place in the final team standings.
For Nazareth, Sean de Herder shot 78 Sunday on the par-71 layout after firing 82 Saturday for a two-round total of 160, good for a tie for 25th place. Senior
Daniel Strack fired a 77 Sunday to finish with a score of 167 and a tie for 40th place. Other Nazareth competitors were junior
Caleb McGuire, who finished with scores of 87 and 85 for a 172 total; senior
Andrew Lund, who had rounds of 90 both days for a 180 total; and junior
Zachary Moore, who had rounds of 94 and 92 for a 186 total.
Utica carded a 353 Sunday, shaving 13 strokes off its day one total. The Pioneers were led by junior captain
Ryan Stalker who struck an 82.
Matthew Haley finished second for UC on day two with a score of 85 while
Alex Malta turned in a 90 on the final day of championship play.
