Nazareth and Ithaca Wrap E8 Season with Wins

Nazareth 6, St. John Fisher 3 Box
Nazareth won all three doubles matches to build an early lead against St. John Fisher and the Golden Flyers went on to take a 6-3 women's tennis victory over the Cardinals Tuesday in an Empire 8 Conference match at Mendon Tennis Club.

Nazareth impoved to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play in the its final regular-season match.

Junior Ami Petosa, senior Elizabeth Crane and sophomore Carlee Hastings each were straight set winners in singles play. Sophomores Jean McCarthy and Audrey Knorr and senior Adrienne Sharza each dropped close three-set singles matchess.

In doubles, Sharza teamed with sophomore Lindsey Crawford to win 8-6 at first doubles. McCarthy and Petosa combined for a point at second doubles as did Crane and Knorr and third doubles.


Ithaca 8, Hartwick 1 Box
The Ithaca College women's tennis team wrapped up the regular-season schedule against Empire 8 teams with an 8-1 victory at Hartwick. Ithaca swept the doubles matches and won five singles matches to improve its dual-match record to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference. 

In Tuesday's dual-match, Ithaca started with an 8-1 win at second doubles by Alyssa Steinweis and Allison Vizgaitis. Carly Siegel and Haley Kusak won at first doubles and Kelly Fishback and Maddie Overholt won at third doubles. Siegel, Vizgaitis, Steinweis, Fishback and Overholt all won in singles play.

HOUGHTON 8, D'Youville 1
The Highlanders (4-9, 1-6 E8) earn another win on the road at D'Youville College (2-9, 2-5) by a 8-1 final score. 

Houghton swept singles play on the afternoon highlighted by a (6-1, 3-6, 7-5) win at second singles by senior, Jennifer Iacucci (Chili, NY, Gates-Chili). 

Hannah Hale (Skowhegan, ME, Skowhegan Area) (6-0,6-0), Lisa Jones (Attica, NY, Homeschool) (6-1,6-1) and Andrea Melhorn (Mount Joy, PA, Donegal) (6-0,6-0) all had convincing triumphs at fourth, fifth and sixth singles.

The highlanders also took doubles at second and third.  Hale and Iacucci defeated Cornell/Woods 8-1, while Tara Anderson (Frewsburg, NY, Frewsburg) and Elizabeth Wideman (Akron, NY, Akron) closed out a victory against Tartick/Madamba 8-0.
