Elmira Downed by SUNY Geneseo
Geneseo, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team surrendered four second-half goals en route to a 5-1 defeat at SUNY Geneseo.
Amanda Banner '17, in just her third start of the season, made 12 saves in net.
The Soaring Eagles began the first half with an aggressive mindset on both ends of the field, not allowing a Geneseo shot until 9:25 into the game while offensively,
Sara Kazerouni '18, had an opportunity on net, only to see it turned away by Knights keeper Allison Stamp. Geneseo continued to press offensively throughout the first half, and despite Elmira's strong defensive play, the Knights scored the game's opening goal with just over two minutes remaining in the half. That would be the only goal scored in the first half as EC trailed 1-0 at the break.
The second half was almost all Geneseo as the Knights scored in the 61st, 68th, and 71st minutes to break open a 4-0 lead. Elmira's
Alexa Barber '15 made it a 4-1 game in the 77th minute, with an assist credited to
Maddie Miller '17, but Geneseo sealed the win with their fifth goal of the game with over six minutes left to play. EC would fall by the 5-1 score.
The Purple and Gold remain on the road for another non-conference contest on Saturday, October 11th when the Soaring Eagles take on Alvernia College at 2:00 p.m.
