Hawks Fall in Dual Meets at U of R
ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick's men's and women's swimming diving teams both dropped head to head meets with the University of Rochester on Saturday at the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center. The 'Wick women lost to the Yellowjackets by a margin of 185-99. The Hawks' men's team fell from the unbeaten ranks after a 3-0 start to the season, 171-116.
Junior Imma Rutligiano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) recorded the lone victory for the women's team. She won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.16. Rutigliano also took second in the 100 back and 200 breaststroke.
Senior
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) was second in the 1000 freestyle and junior
Hanna Prendeville (Diamond Point, NY/Warrensburg) was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke. Sophomores
Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer), Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), senior
Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North), and Rutigliano were also second in the 400 free relay.
The men won a total of six events against the Yellowjackets on the afternoon.
Senior
Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School) led the way with two wins. Blaney took the top spot in the 200 free (1:44.77) and the 100 free (47.67) on the day.
Juniors
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan),
Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City), and sophomores
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) and
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores) also earned wins for the Hawks.
Detar was first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.91. Plunkett won the 200 back in 1:55.88. Quinn touched first in the 1000 free (10:24.91) with Santiesteban winning the 200 individual medley (2:02.62).
The Hawks look to rebound from the day next Saturday. Both teams host Nazareth College in dual meets beginning at 1 p.m.
