Pomona, NJ -- The Elmira College women's soccer team's 2014 season came to an end this evening as the Soaring Eagles fell to the number one seeded Ospreys of Richard Stockton College, 2-1, in the ECAC Metro-Upstate Tournament Quarterfinals. Mackenzie Donohue '15 nearly sparked an Elmira comeback, but her 86th minute goal left too little time for the Soaring Eagles to complete the feat.

The Ospreys entered tonight's contest averaging 2.63 goals per game over their last eight contests, but the Soaring Eagles stymied Stockton's offense thanks to the play of EC's backline and the return of freshman goalkeeper Gabe Carmona '18. Stockton outshot Elmira, 10-0 in the first half, with six of those 10 shots on target, but Carmona made six saves to keep the Ospreys off the scoreboard.

Opportunities came at a premium early on in the second half, but Stockton would breakthrough Elmira's defense in the 60th minute to take a 1-0 lead. EC pushed for the equalizer, but they would find themselves in a 2-0 hole just 13 minutes later. The Soaring Eagles remained relentless in their comeback, and made it a 2-1 game with just over four minutes left on the clock when Donohue netted her fifth goal of the season. Donohue's free kick goal gave the Purple and Gold new hope, but Stockton would not allow an EC shot for the remainder of the second half, leading to the 2-1 finish.

Tonight's ECAC Metro-Upstate Quarterfinal defeat signifies the end of the 2014 season, which with a 7-7-3 record, was the best since 2004.
