Alfred Splits With Herons and Mounties In Tri Meet Action

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming and diving team split a pair of meets with fellow Division III and New York team, William Smith College and with Division II Mansfield University on Saturday in McLane Center.
The Saxons defeated the Mountaineers of Mansfield 149-71 but fell to the Herons 132-100 in a close bout. The Herons topped Mansfield 168-52.
Alfred got things rolling during the 1,000 Yard Free when
Dylan Staniszewski outswam Phoebe Pohl of William Smith by almost 40 seconds with a final time of 11:22.73.
Chrissy Behr followed with a first place win immediately after the tenuous race. She edged out Katie Storch with a two-second win and a final mark of 2:02.76 in the 200 Yard Freestyle.
Despite the Saxons winning three of the first four events, the Herons kept cleaning up the second and third place finishes, continuously gaining a lead over both squads.
Kelsey McRill edged out a 50 Yard Free win with a time of 25.85 before AU would go on a three-race loss. Behr would be the Saxon swimmer to snap the streak with a 1:02.68 first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke.
Staniszewski gained her second distance win of the day in the 500 Yard Free with a time of 5:32.68. The win was another strong performance as she distanced herself from Mansfield's Noelle Erickson by almost 20 seconds.
Behr teamed with
Leah Zimmerman, Sam Brown and Liz Schiffhauer finished the day in the lanes with a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:45.67.
Emma Gromelski picked up a 3-Meter board win with a score of 143.55. It was her third week as a diver and had just learned how to go off the tall board this past week. She also finished second on the short board with a score of 129.3.
The Saxons will next host Fredonia on Friday, November 14 at 6:00 pm.
