Hitchcock Top E8 Finisher At Regionals
Complete Race Results
The top-two teams at each of eight regionals earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Championships. A total of 16 other teams from other regions will be considered for at-large berths to the national meet, which will include 32 teams. The championship field will be announced Sunday.
ITHACA
The Ithaca College men's cross country team placed ninth in a field of 41 teams at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional at Genesee Valley Park. Ithaca junior
Sawyer Hitchcock placed ninth among all individuals at the event and earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Championships on Nov. 22 in Mason, Ohio. He was an all-region honoree, along with sophomore
Sean Phillips, who placed 34th in the individual standings. The top 35 individuals earn all-region designation.
Hitchcock finished ninth with a time of 25 minutes, 26 seconds on the 8-kilometer course. Phillips finished in 25:56.
The other scoring members of the Ithaca lineup included
Stephen Gomez and
Dennis Ryan at 62nd and 63rd in 26:29, and
Tim Chappell in 68th-place in 26:36.
Jesse Capellaro finished in 27:05 and was 100th and
Paul Lapre was 117th with a time of 27:22.
There were 285 individual runners in the event.
NAZARETH
Nazareth finished in 31st place in the men's race and was led by freshman
Kevin Witt, who placed 102nd in 27:06.5 for 8,000 meters.
Other finishers for Nazareth were sophomore
Jacob Murray in 172nd place (28:24.6); junior
Patrick Neureuter in 191st place (28:54.6); sophomore
Matt Battaglia in 202nd place (29:11.7) and sophomore
Ethan Osborne in 228th place (29:53.6). Other competitors were sophomore Tommy Lannon (31:01.6) and freshman Kris Newell (31:05.4).
ST. JOHN FISHER
The St. John Fisher College men's cross country team placed 25th of 41 teams at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Genesee Valley Park.
The Cardinals finished with 792 points and an average time of 28:11.7, putting together their best showing at Regionals in the history of the four-year program. It was It is a seven-spot jump from last year, when Fisher finished 32nd overall in 29:38.1.
Evan Magnussen led Fisher, as he has throughout the season, with a 110th-place finish, completing the eight-kilometer course in 27:12.4.
Freshman
James Felice trailed Magnussen, coming in at 27:22.6 for 120th place.
Daniel Cleary,
Noah Michaels and
Luke Dunkelberg rounded out the scoring for Fisher.
STEVENS
The Stevens Institute of Technology men's cross country team finished in 15
th place in Saturday's NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional.
The one day event was held at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, N.Y. and featured nearly 300 runners from 41 different institutions.
Sophomore
Nicholas Zickgraf paced the Ducks with a 26:10 to finish in 42
nd place while senior
Thomas Cunningham ran a 26:42.3 to finish in 75
th. Sophomore
Chris Banko's 26:48 race put him in 82
nd to round out the Ducks top runners.
UTICA
The men were guided by sophomore
Erik Winberg (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) who was one of UC's top finishers all season. Winberg tallied 76
th place, out of 285 races, with a time of 26:42. Senior Jaime McNamara placed second for UC and 130
th overall with a watch of 27:30 while sophomore
Josh Lee (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) followed three second behind clocking a 27:33 finishing 136
th overall. Junior
Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) and sophomore
Erik Gleba (Cassville, NY/Sauquoit Valley) rounded out the Pioneer scorecard in fourth and fifth place. Zlatniski placed 150
th with a time of 27:52ahead of Gleba who registered a 28:27 placing 174
th.
