Freshman
Sammy Mount's goal in the 80
th minute Saturday lifted the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Richard Stockton College in the ECAC Tournament semifinal.
The win earned Stevens (13-7) a spot in tomorrow's championship game while Stockton's season ends at 15-9.
The Ducks opened the match with pressure, unloading four unanswered shots over the first 17 minutes. Sophomore
Raba Nassif hit the post in the ninth minute while Stockton senior keeper Lauren Haynes made a pair of saves in the 15
th and 17
th minutes.
Stockton answered with shots on goal in the 27
th and 34
th minutes, but freshman keeper
Lindsey Mahnken made the save on both to ensure the match went into the break deadlocked.
The Ducks outshot the Ospreys 6-3 in the half behind two shots each from Nassif and senior
Ann Heine.
The second half brought a back-and-forth battle before the Ducks broke through in the 80
th minute.
After Haynes batted-away a corner kick, Mount took control of the ball in the middle of the box and shot it to the back of the net for the unassisted score. The goal was Mount's second of the season.
The deficit sparked Stockton who responded with four shots over the next four minutes, but two went wide, one hit the crossbar, and the final was blocked to give Stevens the win.
Mahnken made three saves in her sixth shutout of the season while Nassif led with four shots. As a team, Stevens narrowly outshot Stockton 13-12.
The Ducks will play either host Rutgers University- Newark, or The Sage Colleges tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the ECAC Championship
