Regan Takes First At NCAA Regionals
RESULTS
The top-two finishing teams from each of eight regionals earn automatic qualification to the national meet. After that, 16 teams are chosen for at-large berths based on their finish at regional meets. The full field will be announced Sunday afternoon.
STEVENS
Stevens Institute of Technology junior cross country runner
Amy Regan made school history Saturday with a first place finish in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional.
The one day event was held at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, N.Y. and featured nearly 300 runners from 40 different institutions.
Regan ran a race of 21:05.8 to finish 11 seconds better than the second place winner. The Stevens All-American previously took second in this race in 2013 after a ninth place finish in 2012. With the win, Regan has been named All-Region for the third time in her career.
"This title is something we talked about for her last year," head coach
Justin Wood said. "For her, qualifying for the NCAAs wasn't enough, she set a goal to come here and win. This will be her [Regan] third cross country national championship. She has been there and raced well several times so I expect next week to follow the same pattern."
Stevens finished 12
th as a team with a 46
th place finish from
Kathleen Kalbian after a race of 22:58.6, and a 49
th place finish from junior
Kate Moyer (23:01.2).
"The women's team finished 12
th for the highest finish in program history," Wood said. "They have had an amazing run this season."
For the third consecutive season, Regan will move on to the national championship taking place on Nov. 22 in Mason, Ohio.
ITHACA
The Ithaca College women's cross country team placed fifth in a field of 40 teams at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional at Genesee Valley Park. It is the 26th time that Ithaca has placed among the top-five teams at the regionals in the last 32 years.
Allison Bartkowiak was 29th overall with a time of 22 minutes, 38 seconds on the 6-kilometer course. By finishing among the top-35 runners, Bartkowiak earned all-region designation.
The next four runners in the scoring lineup for Ithaca all finished among the top-52 runners in the field of 272.
Emily Smith was 38th in 22:50 and
Alexa Rick was 41st in 22:51.
Hannah Wright (50th, 23:03) and
Anna Fay (52nd, 23:08) rounded out the top-five for Ithaca.
Michaela Cioffredi was 63rd overall in 23:21 and
Anastasia Diamond was 86th in 23:42.
NAZARETH
Nazareth closed out its men's and women's cross country seasons Saturday as both teams competed in the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet at Genesee Valley Park.
The Nazareth women's team finished in 16th place in the 40-team field with 460 points. Junior
Gabrielle LeBihan was the Golden Flyers' top finisher in 51st place. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 23:05.7. Nazareth finished in 31st place in the men's race and was led by freshman Kevin Witt, who placed 102nd in 27:06.5 for 8,000 meters.
St. Lawrence, with four finishers in the top 10, won the women's title with 50 points, one point fewer than runner-up Geneseo. Junior Amy Regan of Stevens was the individual winner with a time of 21:05.8.
For Nazareth, following LeBihan to the finish line were junior
Robin Wagner in 88th place (23:43.8); sophomore
Emily Thompson in 91st place (23:47.5); senior
Michaela Gildemeyer in 114th place (24:15.5) and sophomore
Jamie DiSalvo in 116th place (24:16.0). Freshmen
Kimmy Lovett (24:30.3) and
Andrea Larnard (25:40.9) also competed.
ST. JOHN FISHER
The St. John Fisher College women's cross country team closed out its season with a 23rd-place finish with 658 points at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Genesee Valley Park.
Katlin Shippy crossed the finish line first for the Cardinals, completing the six-kilometer course in 23:17.0 for 57th place. It was Shippy's first time leading Fisher this season. Her 23:17.0 marked a career best time and a personal best on the course.
Sammy Van Gee came in second for the Cardinals less than five seconds later for 66th place.

Sarah Harrington and
Juliet Janicik were the scoring runners for the Cardinals.
UTICA
The Utica College men and women cross country teams placed in the middle of the pack Saturday at Genesee Valley Park at the 2014 NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by the University of Rochester. Junior standout
Ashton Villeneuve(Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) led the way for the women with a 34th place finish while Erik Winberg placed 74th to lead the men.
Villeneuve ran to an impressive 34
th place finish, out of 272 runners, clocking a time of 22:41, good enough for a 6:06 average mile. Classmates
Julie Bowler (Saranac Lake, NY/Saranac Lake) and
Samantha Bennett (Mexico, NY/Mexico) placed second and third for UC as they crossed the line together in the 25
th minute. Bowler recorded a time of 25:03 placing 165
th just ahead of Bennett who finished 184
th with a watch of 25:48. Sophomore
Sarah DePalma (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) placed fourth for Utica and 193
rd overall clocking a 26:16.
