Nazareth men win at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's swimming and diving team defeated the host St. Lawrence teams on Saturday by the score of 147-114 while the women won 169-127. Junior Sean Doyle was first in the 100-yard freestyle (:51.6) and was third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.76) and in the 100-yard butterfly (:59.7). 

In addition to Doyle's performance, classmate Dan Burke was first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.31, and freshman Gannon Connors was first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of :57.55. Connors also added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :52.21. Freshman Peter Shea also performed well in the backstroke with a third-place time of 1:02.09. Classmate Ian Deveney added a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (:59.43).

Sophomore Matt Leverich recorded a pair of second-place finishes. He touched the wall in :23.55 in the 50-yard freestyle, and he finished in 5:07.14 in the 500-yard freestyle. Classmate Philip Nanula tallied a third-place finish in the 500 with a time of 5:19.8.

In addition to claiming several individual events, the Nazareth men took first in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Golden Flyers finished the 200 with a time of 1:44.89. Burke, freshman Ibrahim Stungurys, Deveney, and Connors combined for the victory in the 200. In the 400-yard event, Doyle, Connors, Nanula, and Leverich combined for a time of 3:27.69.

Nazareth is in action again November 22nd when the Golden Flyers host Fredonia.
