NEWARK, N.J. (November 16, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team exploded for seven goals Sunday against Rutgers University – Newark, giving them the ECAC Metro/Upstate Region Championship.
 
The 7-1 win ends Stevens' season at 14-7 and gives them the third ECAC Championship in program history.
 
The Ducks wasted no time getting on the board with a goal in the first minute. Off a pass from junior Kristen Goncalves, sophomore Raba Nassif blasted a shot past Rutgers-Newark keeper Veronika Tueros. The goal was Nassif's team-leading 17th of the season.
 
Rutgers-Newark fought right back with a goal in the fifth minute, but the Ducks were able to answer in the 19th. Dribbling up the right side of the field, Nassif connected with the right side of the net for the score.
 
The Ducks continued with their pressure offense, adding to the lead in the 32nd minute with an unassisted goal from senior Ann Heinie. The Stevens senior beat her defender before shooting past the charging keeper.
 
Heine connected again in the 35th minute for her ninth goal of the season. Off a misplayed clearing pass, Heine gained control of the ball and shot from the right side of the box. The score held up for the final 10 minutes as the Ducks took a 4-1 lead into the break.
 
Just 49 seconds into the second half, senior Georgia Johnson got into the scoring with a goal off a put-back penalty shot. The Ducks took five more shots on goal over the next 17 minutes before adding another in the 62nd.
 
From 25 yards out, freshman Sandi Komar ripped a shot from the left side for the unassisted goal. The score was the second of the season for Komar.
 
Stevens continued to dominate for the rest of the half before capping its scoring in the 70th minute. Off a cross pass from Johnson, senior Stephanie Basile hit the upper left side of the net for the goal. The lead would prove to be more than enough for the Ducks as the closed out the 7-1 win with ease.
 
The match marked the second time this season the Ducks recorded seven goals, and Heine was named the tournament's most valuable player.

Five different players scored for the Ducks while Nassif and Heine had two goals each. Freshman Lindsey Mahnken made four saves in net.
