Utica Baseball in the Community
Utica, NY (11-29-14) – The Utica College baseball team has been donating its time this off season throughout the community working with the Oneida County Youth Bureau, Office for the Aging and local colleges and school districts.
The Pioneers joined forces with these local agencies assisting with the 6
th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up. UC raked and bagged leaves, swept porches, sidewalks and driveways and brought light refuse to the curb for senior citizens who physically can no longer do the work themselves.
The initiative, put forth by Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, took place on Saturday Oct. 25
th and Sunday Oct. 26
th and coincided with Make-A-Difference Day. The event was a collaboration between the Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts and youth organizations.
Utica baseball also has been visiting Jones Elementary School working with the special education students in the classroom. The Pioneers have helped out with small projects as well as reading books to the students.
UC opens up the season on Monday, March 31
st in Buffalo, NY against Medaille College. The Pioneers have 33 games scheduled in the Spring along with their annual trip to Florida for the Russ Matt Tournament in Winter Haven.
