MASON, OHIO (November 21, 2014)
– Stevens Institute of Technology junior Amy Regan will represent the women's cross country program at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at King's Island in Mason, Ohio Saturday afternoon.

Regan will race at 12:30 p.m. and Duck fans interested in watching the race should come to Schaefer Center Lobby for a viewing party beginning at 12:15 p.m. Free pizza (while supplies last) will be served to fans that reference 'NCAA XC' when arriving to the Schaefer Center front desk.

On November 19, Regan was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Woman Athlete of the Year after winning the NCAA Atlantic Region by 21 seconds that weekend. The win locked up a third trip to the national meet in three seasons for the Stevens junior. In her first trip as a freshman in 2012, she placed 40th. In her second trip to the dance last November, the then-sophomore became the first All-American in program history, finishing sixth overall. She was less than two seconds away from fourth and just 18 ticks from a national title.

"Competing at the national meet with very talented athletes from across the country is always exciting," commented Regan Thursday after arriving in Mason. "I am looking forward to a challenging race and hope to finish well!"

Regan has finished well all season, becoming the first-ever Empire 8 student-athlete to win back-to-back-to-back cross country titles. In total, the Green Brook, N.Y. native has already won seven times this fall including the NCAA Atlantic Regional, the Empire 8 Championship, the Haverford Invitational and the Saratoga Invitational among others.

Regan and the Stevens coaching staff arrived in Ohio on Thursday, working out that afternoon and beginning prep for the meet. They will practice again Friday before a banquet in the evening. Saturday's race gets underway at 12:30 p.m.

"My favorite part (about nationals) is being able to travel, and compete in different parts of the country on different courses," said Regan who is looking forward to the event and weekend as a whole. "There's always other perks to traveling too – Smoothie King in different states, visiting cities I've never been to and meeting new athletes each year."

Thirty-two schools and 56 individuals qualified for the championships based on team and individual performance at the eight different Regional Championships. Regan is the only female student-athlete from a New Jersey college or university competing.

In addition to her cross country prowess, Regan has been excellent for the track & field programs as well, notching two All-America nods at last year's NCAA indoor championships and one more at the outdoor championships in late-May to give her four in one year.

"The goal is to repeat past performance at the cross country national championships," Head Cross Country Coach Justin Wood said. "She has now qualified for six different national championships so she knows what to do and what to expect. More than improving placement or her 6k-time Amy wants to race well and she is ready for that challenge."
