Hartwick Competes at Hamilton Quad-Meet
CLINTON, NY – Hartwick's swimming and diving teams faced teams from Hamilton, Ithaca, and Geneseo on Saturday at the Hamilton Quad-Meet in Clinton, NY. The men went 1-2, defeating Hamilton 154-130 and falling to Geneseo 159-135 and Ithaca 179-101. The women fell to Hamilton (180-114), Ithaca (218-80), and Geneseo (226-72).
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan) and
Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City) each registered victories in individual events for the Hawks' men's team. Detar bested the field in the 200 butterfly. He touched the wall in 1:57.06. Plunkett was tops in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.59. He also finished second in the 100 backstroke (54.00).
Brendan Day (Westfield, MA/Westfield) was second in a pair of events. He was runner-up in both the 100 breaststroke (1:01.90) and the 200 breaststroke (2:17.65).
Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School) was in the top three in a trio of events. He finished second by just 0.07 seconds in the 200 freestyle (1:44.66). He was also third in the 100 freestyle (48.51) and 100 butterfly (53.95).
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores) was also second in the 50 freestyle (22.46). Plunkett,
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield),
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley), and Blaney combined for a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.81).
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) took first in the 200 freestyle for the Hawk women. She swam the race in a time of 1:59.26. She was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:15.08).
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) swam to three top four finishes. She was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:23.06. She was also third in the 1000 freestyle (11:06.75), and fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:16.80).
Next up for the Hawks is the Ithaca Invitational which takes place from December 5-7.
