BUFFALO, N.Y. -- After two games in Buffalo were postponed last week for Houghton women's basketball, the Highlanders finally got back into action against D'Youville College on Monday. Unfortunately for Houghton, the layoff resulted in a 58-46 loss to the Spartans.

It was a rough first half for the Highlanders, who trailed 25-19 at the half after shooting just 23 percent from the field. Fortunately the Spartans also struggled, converting on just 28 percent of their attempts.

The second half shooting improved to 40 percent for the visitors, but the hosts shot 45 percent and outscored the Highlanders 33-27 over the final 20 minutes.

Individually, Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) had a strong performance with 17 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Hannah Manwaring (Barton, NY, Tioga Central HS) tallied 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, while converting 5-of-12 from long range. Hannah Fink (Coudersport, PA, Coudersport HS) was also in double figures with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Houghton (1-1) is back in action at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Pitt-Bradford.
