The No. 2-seeded St. John Fisher College field hockey team blanked No. 3 Washington & Jefferson College 3-0 in the semifinal game of the Empire 8 Championship on Saturday.

Emily Markarian put the Cardinals on the board in the 16th minute. Stacie Skidmore found Markarian finding space in front of the goal and the freshman forward finished it against an open net.

Alexis Zakala put Fisher up 2-0 after following through on her rebound. The Cardinals would hold onto their lead heading into halftime.

Markarian struck again early in the second half. Markarian dodged goalkeeper Morgan Brozena and fired inside the left post for her 21st goal of the season. Elizabeth Cusack earned the assist.

Fisher held a 12-2 shot advantage over the Presidents with goalkeeper Danielle Famolaro recording just one save in goal.

The Cardinals improve to 12-8 overall and 8-1 in conference play, with their only loss to top-seeded Utica College, while the Presidents bow out of the playoffs with a 10-9 overall record and 5-4 in Empire 8.

The Cardinals will face Utica at 1 p.m. Sunday for the Empire 8 Championship title for the second consecutive season.
