Stevens Opens Competition at NYU Fall Invite; Ducks in Second After Day 1

NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 7, 2014)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team opened competition at the 2014 New York University Fall Invitational on Friday.
 
After Day 1, the Ducks are in second place with 233 points. Host NYU is in first with 308 as SUNY New Paltz and Arcadia University check in at third and fourth.
 
The second and final day of action will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. in Manahattan.
 
Stevens placed third in Friday's first event - the 200-yard freestyle relay - as the group of senior April Lawson, senior Sharon Rooker, senior Nicole Miller and sophomore Danielle Caruso teamed to earn 32 points and turn in a time of 1:41.08.
 
Caruso came back to win the 500-yard freestyle, picking up 20 team points and finishing the race with a 5:08.24. Junior Katlyn Christenson was sixth (13 points) and freshman Meghan Randle earned eighth (11 points).
 
Freshman Sarah Hoogenboom finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a 2:18.59, while Lawson picked up third in the 50-yard freestyle thanks to a 25.06. Miller was sixth in the 50-free as her and Lawson combined for 29 team tallies.
 
Closing the Friday action was the 400-yard medley relay team. Rooker, senior Brittany Geyer, senior Maria McClure and Lawson picked up 34 points by placing second with a time of 4:02.83.
