NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 7, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team is in second place after one day of competition at the New York University Fall Invitational in Manhattan.
 
The Ducks' team total of 261 trails host NYU by 34 as the Violets picked up 295 team tallies Friday. SUNY New Paltz and Arcadia University are currently in third and fourth place.
 
The second and final day of action is set to begin Saturday at 10 a.m.
 
The Ducks began the competition by taking second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of freshman Ethan Gehenio, junior Joshua Lefeber, junior Dane Pilcher and junior Tomasz Wolinski combined for a time of 1:26.33 and 34 team points.
 
Sophomore William Arnott and freshman Connor Harrigan finished four-five in the 500-yard freestyle with strong times of 4:46.40 and 4:47.32. Freshman James Betz and sophomore Mark Lippert finished sixth and seventh, respectively, as the group of four teamed to bring in 54 points in the one event.
 
Lefeber was the first Duck to earn a win, taking the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.19. He was followed by senior Alex Xu in second place as the veteran clocked a 1:57.21.
 
Wolinski, Gehenio and senior John Rees were all in the top-eight in the 50-yard freestyle. Wolinski's 21.46 netted him second place (17 points), while Gehenio's 21.83 was good for fourth. Rees finished seventh as the trio of Ducks accumulated 44 tallies.
 
Junior Ravi Sun, Lefeber, sophomore Austen Young and Wolinski closed the Friday action by taking second in the 400-yard medley relay, touching at 3:29.12 and earning 34 team points.
