Highlanders Halted by Tigers, 83-47

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A tough RIT squad coupled with cold shooting and numerous turnovers by Houghton added up to an 83-47 loss for Highlander women's basketball on Thursday.

The game stayed close early, with the the teams trading baskets over the first seven minutes. The Tigers stretched their lead to 29-20 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, but closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 41-22 lead into the locker room. Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) led the Highlanders with 11 points and six rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

The momentum continued with the Tigers as the second half started. The hosts opened the half on a 22-5 run to push the lead to 36 at the 12:40 mark. The Highlanders were able to trim the margin to 25 after a 13-2 run of their own, but the Tigers responded to increase the lead back to 36 as the game hit the final minutes.

Pipher finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Fink (Coudersport, PA, Coudersport HS) added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Hannah Manwaring (Barton, NY, Tioga Central HS) chipped in with 11 points. Christel Enriquez-Fisher (Colorado Springs, CO, William Mitchell HS) tallied six points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Houghton shot just 30 percent from the field and turned the ball over 36 times. Houghton outrebounded RIT, 41-30. The Tigers (6-2) shot 51 percent from the field.

Houghton (3-4) is back in action on Saturday when they host Alfred State at 2 p.m.
