The end of the 2014 fall semester is upon us, which means class schedules are winding down and final exams are in full swing, leaving limited teams in action last week. However a few basketball teams took to the court and did not disappoint. Those earning weekly honors for the week of Dec. 8-14 include....
Men’s Basketball Player – Houghton
Johnathan Stowe, Sophomore, Forward – Toronto, ONT/Don Mills Collegiate Institute
Sophomore Johnathan Stowe helped Houghton to a 1-0 record last week with a 80-69 win over Alfred State. He led the Highlanders offensively, pacing the team with a career-high 30 points after shooting 71 percent (10-of-14) points in 36 minutes of play. Stowe secured nine rebounds, three steals and two assists in the victory.

Women’s Basketball Player – Ithaca
Ally Mnich, Senior, Guard – Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel
Senior Ally Mnich notched a career-high 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three-point range in a 78-67 road win at Rochester on Dec. 13. Mnich scored eight of her points in the first three minutes of the game. Ithaca never trailed in the contest.
Women’s Basketball Rookie – Elmira
Danielle Cleary, Freshman, Guard – Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy
Danielle Cleary guided Elmira to a 62-47 win over visiting SUNY Potsdam, improving EC to 3-3 on the year. She recorded a career-high 22 points against the Bears, her second consecutive 20-point game of the season. 18 of her 22 points came from beyond the arc as she knocked down 6-of-8 three-point attempts. Cleary's six three-point baskets are the most made by an Elmira player since the 2010-11 season when Becky Peterman also made six three-point buckets.
