The St. John Fisher College men's basketball squad used a fast start to vault to a 79-70 victory over host Bethany College (WV.) on Wednesday night.
With the win, Fisher improves to 5-2 on the season while Bethany falls to 5-5.
Fisher stormed out of the gates, opening up a 19-2 lead over the first nine minutes of the contest.
Optimystik Kinard drilled back-to-back 3-pointers on the run to help Fisher jump out to the 17 point advantage.
Fisher cooled off, however, and a 10-0 over a three minute span brought the Bison back into the game at 19-12 with 8:37 to play in the half.
Bethany climbed to within two points near the end of the half, before Fisher closed out on a 5-0 run, including a layup from
Tyler Hart to give the Cardinals a 36-20 halftime advantage. Hart registered 10 first half points.
In the second half, Kinard drilled his fourth 3-pointer of the game to give the Cardinals a 50-38 lead eight minutes into the period. Kinard ended the day with 14 points from the floor.
Fisher continued to hold a double-digit advantage for most of the second half until Antonio Rudolph put home a dunk cut the deficit to 68-59 with just under five minutes to play.
The Bison tried to mount a comeback down the stretch, but they would no closer than a seven point margin over the final minutes of play.
Chaz Lott went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
Hart led the way on 6-of-12 from the field for 19 points, to go along with four assists.

Fisher returns to action at 8 p.m. on December 29, when it will host Old Westbury College in the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament.
