Ten Women's Soccer Players Make All-Region Teams
All-East Region Team
Ten student-athletes of the Empire 8 women's soccer teams have been selected to the All-East Region team for 2014 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
FIRST TEAM
Houghton senior forward Stephany Ellison, from Whitesville, put together another stellar season for the Highlanders to earn her second straight E8 Player of the Year honor and third-straight appearance on the E8 First Team. She has scored 22 goals and registered four assists for a conference high 48-points. She registered at least one point in 14-of-18 games played and helped jumpstart Houghton's offense to the tune of 38 goals.
Ithaca junior forward Kelsey King, a native of Coopersburg, Pa., led the Bombers in nearly every offensive category. She paced the team with 14 goals, combining with five assists for a team-high 33 points. She also has six game-winning goals in 2014 and three multi-goal games this season.
Ithaca junior goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia, a Katonah, N.Y. native, started every game in goal for the Bombers this season, giving her an impressive 15-4-1 record. She led the Empire 8 with a .75 goals-against average, while her ten shutouts also marked the most in the conference. She recorded a .854 save percentage and made 88 saves throughout the season.
Nazareth senior defender Tyler Carr, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., started regularly on defense for the Golden Flyers in 2014 and helped the team post a goals-against average of 0.80 with 11 shutouts. She was a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star as well as the E8's Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, she was named MVP of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament after Nazareth advanced past Ithaca on penalty kicks.
Nazareth sophomore midfielder Michaela Soules, of Camden, N.Y., also was a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star who started at center midfield. She led the Golden Flyers in assists with 11 and was second overall in scoring with 21 points, including five goals.
