Alfred, Hartwick, Ithaca and Nazareth's men's swimming & diving teams completed the second day of the Bomber Invitational Saturday.
ITHACA
Ithaca College men's swimming & diving team finished the second day of the Bomber Invite on Saturday at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. Ithaca recorded 648.5 points through 15 events, holding third-place out of nine teams.
Ithaca opened the afternoon session of day two with a fantastic effort in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Bombers placed second, as the team of
Logan Metzger,
Adam Zelehowsky,
Jonathan Wheeler and
Addison Hebert finished in a time of 1:24.89. Cornell placed first with a time of 1:24.01, just beating out the Bombers and setting a new meet record.
A. Zelehowsky carried Ithaca's momentum into the 200-yard freestyle. He placed second overall, touching the wall in a time of 1:42.46. Cornell barely edged out A. Zelehowsky for the victory, finishing in 1:43.30.
Lucas Zelehowsky chipped in with another individual second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. He finished in a time of 50.76, just behind Cornell's first-place time of 50.74.
Hebert followed up his second-place relay effort with an individual performance in the 400-yard individual medley. Hebert finished in a time of 4:24.11, placing 16th out of 28 entries. Senior diver
Matt Morrison highlighted the afternoon on the 3-meter board, finishing first out of 14 entries with a score of 536.55.
The Bombers wrapped up the afternoon session with a second-place mark in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Metzger,
Aidan Hartswick, L. Zelehowsky and Hebert finished in a time of 3:31.54, earning second out of eight entries.
L. Zelehowsky opened the evening session with a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, avenging his second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly earlier in the day. L. Zelehowsky touched the wall first at 1:53.72, marking the Bombers' first top spot in a swimming event.
Ithaca placed two athletes in the top-10 of the 100-yard backstroke, including Metzger's sixth-place finish in a time of 52.86. A. Zelehowsky finished eighth out of 43 entries, touching the wall in 53.94.
L. Zelehowsky added to his day with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 57.96. Hartswick wasn't far behind, finishing in 59.25 to place eighth. The Bombers closed the day out with an eighth place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 7:14.53.
ALFRED
The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team remains in seventh place of the Ithaca College Invitational after the Day Two events concluded on Saturday with a score of 443.
The Saxons got things rolling with the 200 Free Relay team of seniors
David Luke (Ocala, FL/West Port), Zachary Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint),
Joseph Lawrence (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) and
David Coombes (Dansville, NY/Dansville). The squad finished third with a time of 1:25.01.
Coombes was a top individual performer for the Saxons with a fourth place time of 1:43.67 in the 200 Free and a time of 52.78 in the 100 Backstroke, which was good enough for fifth. Zachary Toth earned a sixth place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:59.06 and a ninth place in the 100 Fly with a finish of 52.72.

Alec Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint), senior
Joseph Rogers (Dublin, NH) and Coombes gained 56 points with their second place, 7:04.49 finish.
HARTWICK
Senior
Miles Blaney secured a victory in the 200 freestyle in the morning session of the second day of competition at the Ithaca Invitational Saturday.
After the evening session, the Hartwick men remain in fourth place with 528 points.
Blaney swam the 200 free in 1:42.30. He edged out Ithaca's Adam Zelehowsky by .16 seconds for the win. Junior
Matt Plunkett placed seventh in the race.
Also in the morning session, Plunkett, Blaney,
Brendan Day, and
Ben Detar combined for a 4
th place showing in the 4 x 100 medley relay. They swam the race in a final time of 3:33.87.
Detar was also 9
th in the 400 IM in 4:16.67.
Brendan Quinn was two spots back in 11
thplace.
Blaney,
Luis Santiesteban,
Brian Edmister III, and
Joe Mulvehill finished sixth in the 4 x 50 free relay (1:27.11).
In the evening session, Detar and Plunket each earned fourth-place finishes in their respective events. Detar was fourth in the 200 fly (1:54.37). Plunkett equaled the feat in the 100 backstroke in 52.72. Edmister was ninth in the event (54.51).
The men's 4 x 200 free relay team of Plunkett, Santiesteban, Edmister, and Detar took fourth. Their final time was 7:08.43.
NAZARETH
Junior
Dan Burke was Nazareth's top performer Saturday as the Golden Flyers resumed competition at the Bomber Invitational. Nazareth's men's team has totaled 178 points and is in ninth place in the nine-team field.
Burke posted a time of 4:08.60 to break the school record in the 400 IM, eclipsing
Tim Rappold's time of 4:10.07 from February of 2013. Sophomore
Declan Lyons finished 21st in the same event with a time of 4:31.70. Burke also swam on Nazareth's 200 free relay that finished ninth in 1:29.05.
Sean Doyle,
Gannon Connors and
Matt Leverich also competed. Leverich finished 20th in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.73.
In the evening session, the Golden Flyers' men's 4 x 200 freestyle relay team claimed seventh with a time of 7:12.56. The relay team was composed of Burke, Doyle,
Philip Nanula, and Leverich. Freshman
Andrew Battaglia was Nazareth's top performer in the individual events. He placed 12th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.25. Burke added a 17th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.31
