Competition Wraps Up at Bomber Invite

Empire 8 women's swimming & diving teams wrapped up the final day of the Bomber Invitational Sunday afternoon at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion.
ITHACA
Ithaca finished third overall with 879 points through 20 total events. Cornell took the top spot, claiming first with a point total of 1745.5
Catherine Tompkins opened up the final day of competition with a 10th place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. Her time of 18:43.83 paced the Bombers, as
Nilza Costa (18:50.80) and
Miranda Wingfield (18:58.09) finished 12th and 14th, respectively.
Lauren Cox led Ithaca in the 100-yard freestyle. Her time of 54.64 earned her a 12th place finish out of 52 participants.
Cassie Papaleo wasn't far behind, finishing 16th overall in a time of 55.08.
Grace Ayer and
Kylie Bangs continued their strong performances over the weekend, as each earned top-3 finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. Ayer's time of 2:06.04 ranked second, while Bangs took third with a time of 2:07.15.
Meredith Wells earned the top spot amongst the Bombers in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing 11th overall with a time of 2:33.02.
Christine Zulkosky wasn't far behind, taking 15th out of 21 participants in 2:35.47.
In the final event of the meet, Ithaca earned a fourth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The group of Ayer, Duffy, Papaleo and Cox finished in a time of 3:38.33, beating out four other relay teams.
HARTWICK
The Hartwick women ended up in seventh place at the Ithaca Invitational this weekend.
Gwen Mathias led the way for the Hawks' women's team, which finished with 561 points. She placed third in the 1650 freestyle (17:40.19). She also was sixth in the 200 back (2:10.62). Mathias also combined with
Imma Rutigliano,
Rachel Bellis, and
Bree Jefferds for sixth in the 4 x 100 free relay (3:43.29).
Rutigliano was also seventh in the 200 back, just .34 seconds behind Mathias.
Hanna Prendeville took 13
th in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.37).
NAZARETH
Nazareth had a strong showing in the 1,650 freestyle by taking places two, six, seven, eight, 13 and 15. Sophomore
Cameron Hess was second with a time of 17:39.99. Junior
Kimberly Pedrotti was sixth in 18:17.87 and was followed by senior
Brittany Friedrich in seventh place (18:25.06), sophomore
Lillian Masters in eighth place (18:32.81), junior
Renee Stromski in 13th place (18:55.13) and sophomore
Julia Madore in 15th place (19:14.94).
Pedrotti also finished ninth in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.75) and was followed by Friedrich in 17th place (2:36.68). Sophomore
Elizabeth Carro finished 19th in the 200 backstroke (2:16.81) and the 400 free relay team of sophomores
Bridget Geary and
Shannon O'Malley and Stromski and Hess finished ninth in 3:47.32.
ALFRED
The Alfred University women's swimming and diving team completed the three-day journey at the Ithaca College Invitational in last place with 373 points on Sunday.
Sophomore Dylan Staniszewksi (Oakton, VA/Oakton) tied for third place in the 100 Free with a time of 26.5. She tied with Cornell University's Jennifer Zhang. Cornell won the invitational with a team score of 1,865.5. Senior
Chrissy Behr (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) added a 10
th place finish in the event as well (54.28).
The 400 Free Relay team of Behr,
Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon), Elizabeth Schiffauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and Staniszewski finished seventh with a time of 3:46.07.
