Alfred, Hartwick, Ithaca and Nazareth's men's swimming & diving teams completed the second day of the Bomber Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 6.
ITHACA
The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team completed the second day of the Bomber Invite on Saturday at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. The Bombers accumulated 644 points over 15 events, ranking fourth out of nine teams. Cornell still holds the top spot with 1385 points.
Sophomore
Grace Ayer started the afternoon session on Saturday with a strong performance in the 400-yard individual medley. She placed sixth overall, finishing in a time of 4:40.49. Senior
Kylie Bangs wasn't far behind, taking 11th out of 37 entries in a time of 4:43.00.
Cassie Papaleo paced the Bombers in the 100-yard butterfly, taking ninth overall with a time of 1:00.65.
Christine Zulkosky finished just outside of the top-10, taking 12th with a time of 1:01.88.
Lauren Cox finished first amongst the Bombers in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:59.41 for an 11th place finish. Sophomore
Nickie Griesemer ranked second in the women's only diving event of the day, scoring a 424.45 on the 1-meter board. She finished just behind Cornell's top score of 424.75.
Ithaca closed the afternoon session with a fifth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The group of Bangs,
Samantha Reilly, Ayer and Cox beat out four other teams, touching the wall in 4:02.29.
In the first event of the evening session,
Cassie Papaleo opened with a top-10 finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Papaleo's time of 2:15.16 earned her seventh out of 21 entries. Bangs paced Ithaca in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 58.44 for an impressive third place finish.
Ayer built on her success in the morning session with another solid individual race in the evening. She placed seventh out of 42 entries in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 1:07.94. Reilly (1:09.77) and
Meredith Wells (1:09.89) also picked up points in the breaststroke, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively.
The Bombers closed the second day of competition with a fifth place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Michelle Heidgerken,
Lyndsay Isaksen,
Nilza Costa and Ayer completed the race in 8:07.55, beating out four other relay teams.
ALFRED
The Alfred University women's swimming and diving team remains in ninth place of the Ithaca College Invitational after the Day Two events concluded on Saturday with a score of 278.5.
The 800 Yard Freestyle Relay team of senior Christina Behr (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional), junior
Allison Derwallis (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Ludlow), freshman
Elizabeth Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and sophomore
Dylan Staniszewski (Oakton, VA/Oakton) earned 44 points with an eighth place finishing time of 8:16.56.
Earlier in the day, the 200 Yard Freestyle team of Behr, Schiffhauer, junior
Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) and Staniszewski placed fifth with a time of 1:40.99 and earned 50 team points.
Staniszewski finished 16
th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:44.86. The time was not only good enough to earn the team 11 points, but also good enough to set a new school record. She also earned a sixth place win in the 200 Free with a finish of 1:57.93.
Behr also took 14
th in the 100 Back (1:01.72) while sophomore
Samantha Brown (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) earned a 15
th placing in the 200 Yard Fly (2:27.85).
HARTWICK
After the evening session, the Hartwick women have 411 points in seventh place.
Kelsey Elliott,
Helen Merkley,
Bree Jefferds, and
Imma Rutigliano were sixth in the 4 x 50 free relay for the Hartwick women. They finished in 1:41.38.
Rutigliano earned the Hawks' top individual finish in the 400 IM. She ended the race in seventh place with a time of 4:41.21.
The Hartwick 4 x 100 medley relay team of
Ally Agate,
Morgan Riggins, Rutigliano, and Elliott also placed seventh (4:10.42).
In the evening session, Elliott and Rutigliano were 12
th and 13
th, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Elliott touched up in 1:01.38 with Rutigliano just .16 behind.
Janine Warren was 13
th in the 200 butterfly (2:21.98).
The women's 4 x 200 free relay team secured the top finish of the night. Rutigliano,
Gwen Mathias, Agate, and Elliott finished fourth. Their time was 7:59.54.
NAZARETH
Nazareth's women's team stands eighth with 236 points.
In the women's morning session,
Kimberly Pedrotti finished 10th in the 400 IM in 4:42.87. Sophomore
Bridget Geary was 15th in the 100 butterfly (1:02.43) and sophomore
Cameron Hess was 15th in the 200 freestyle (2:00.08). The Golden Flyers also finished eighth in a pair of relays. The foursome of Geary,
Renee Stromski,
Lillian Masters and
Shannon O'Malley finished eighth in the 200 free relay (1:44.12) and the team of
Elizabeth Carro,
Erika Holland, Pedrotti and Geary was eighth in the 400 medley relay (4:11.47).
In the evening session, the Golden Flyers' women's relay team claimed the highest place for Nazareth. The 4 x 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of O'Malley, Masters, Stromski, and Hess, was seventh with a time of 8:08.72. Carro was the top Nazareth swimmer in the 200 butterfly, and Pedrotti was the top Golden Flyer in the 100 breaststroke as they finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Carro's time was 2:19.96 while Pedrotti touched the wall at 1:08.62.
