Ithaca Tallies Seventh Straight Empire 8 Indoor Title

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's track & field team scored 146 points en route to winning its seventh straight Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at Glazer Arena. Ithaca has won eight of the 11 crowns contested.
Claiming a pair of the meets' 15 events, Ithaca had eight individuals earn All-Empire 8 honors. Two Bombers hit ECAC qualifiers during the meet.
St. John Fisher College, competing in its third season as an NCAA program, scored 105 points and placed as the runner-up behind Ithaca. Stevens totaled 97 points for third place and Utica placed fourth (65 pts).
Utica freshman
Rayshawn Scott and St. John Fisher junior Eric Riley were named Empire 8 Co-Field Athletes of the Meet. Shane Chiaravalle of Stevens was awarded the Track Athlete of the Meet.
Scott qualified for ECAC's in his first championship outing as a Pioneer with a victory in the triple jump recording a leap of 14.14 meters, missing the meet record by .02. He also placed third in the high jump soaring 1.88 meters.
Riley won the long jump and qualified for the ECAC Championship with a school-record leap of 6.80 meters. He also placed second and qualified for the ECAC in the high jump at 1.93 meters.
Chiaravalle had a second place showing in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.11 seconds, third in the 400-meter dash in 51.96 and ran a leg on the top 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a time of 3:30.08.
The Bombers took one-two in the 60-meter dash. Juniors
Rashaad Barrett and
Kevin Davis clocked finishes of 7.04 and 7.20, respectively. Barrett's time set an Empire 8 Championship record and qualified him for the ECAC Indoor Championships.
Ithaca's second ECAC qualifier came with a runner-up finish by sophomore
De'Marquis Graves (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) in the triple jump. He finished with a mark of 13.98 meters.
Sophomore
Aaron Matthias won the 200 dash in 22.97. Three others had runner-up finishes on the track. Senior
Brennan Edmonds raced to a 51.41 finish in the 400, junior
Dennis Ryan clocked a time of 1:59.77 in the 800 and rookie
Sean Phillips completed the 5,000 in 15:29.70.
Junior
Taylor Appel placed second in the pole vault with a clear of 3.80 meters.
