Hartwick 73, St. John FIsher 51 (Box Score)
The Hartwick Hawks secured a 22-point, 73-51 victory on Saturday evening at Lambros Arena. 'Wick limited the visiting Cardinals to just 11 made baskets and a shooting percentage of 20.8% (11-for-53) in the game. On the weekend, the Hawks held their opponents to just 19.6% shooting (21-for-107) in two contests.

The Hawks controlled the first half as they opened up a lead of 17 points at one stage. They would limit the Cardinals to just three baskets and 12.5% (3-for-24) shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

The lead swelled to 20 on an Alicia Razanousky jumper two minutes into the second half. Fisher would score eight of the next 10 points though, to get the lead down to less than fifteen points.

A three-pointer and a layup from Mary Kate Cusack for Fisher would close the gap to eleven, 48-37, with 10:30 remaining. Four free throws from Foglia and another three-point basket from Kait Veit would build the advantage back up to 18.

With under seven minutes remaining, Fisher was able to whittle the Hartwick lead down to 12 points on two occasions but each time the Hawks were able to find points to keep the Cardinals at bay. A three from Cusack made the score 59-47 with just over five minutes showing on the clock but it would be as close as the visitors would get. The Hawks would make 8-of-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch while Fisher went just 1-for-8 with four turnovers.

Hartwick finished the game shooting 41.5% (22-for-53) as a group. The Hawks made 52.9% (9-of-17) from three-point range and dominated on the glass, 45-32. 'Wick made 20 free throws in the game which was its second-highest total of the season.


Stevens 58, Nazareth 46 (Box Score)
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team improved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in the Empire 8 Conference with a 58-46 home victory over Nazareth College on Saturday evening in Canavan Arena.

Stevens led for 15 minutes of the first half and were up by as many as 11 points, 24-13, in the opening stanza with 6:31 left on the clock. Sophomore Miranda Ripken tallied seven of her game-high-tying 15 points in the first half on 3-for-5 shooting. Ripken finished the matchup with three assists, three rebounds and two steals, while shooting 6-for-11 overall.

In the second half, Nazareth opened up on a 6-0 run over the first 2:26 to take a 33-31 lead. After deadlocks at 33-33 and 35-35, the Golden Flyers went back up by three, 38-35, with 12:20 to go in regulation. 

Nazareth went back up, 40-37, with 9:33 left in the game and called a timeout to regroup. The stoppage in play seemed to work in favor of the Ducks, as they came out of the huddle and went on a 14-2 run over the next 7:33 to build a 51-42 advantage with just two minutes remaining. The Ducks would ice the conference tilt away with seven made free throws in the final two minutes.


Elmira 64, Utica 57 (Box Score)
 Maria Thannhauser '14 scored a season-high 20 points to guide the Elmira College women's basketball team (13-4, 5-2 E8) to a 64-57 win over Utica College (5-13 0-10 E8).  With the win, Elmira secured their first winning season since 2006-07.

Elmira had a strong start to today's game as they opened the first half with a mini 8-0 run, holding the Pioneers scoreless for almost the first seven minutes of action.  Utica would eventually trim the Soaring Eagles' lead to 15-11 at the 9:38 mark, but an 11-3 run over the next two minutes would put Elmira back in the driver's seat with a 26-14 lead. 

Utica would make another push at the end of the half, cutting Elmira's lead to just four with 3:40 to play in the half, but EC would end up taking a 32-26 lead into the break.  Thannhauser paced the Soaring Eagles in the first half, scoring 10 points, six of those points coming from beyond the arc.

In the second half, Elmira would build their lead back to 12 points and watch it dip to as low as five with 9:19 remaining in regulation.   However, Elmira would regain their 12 point advantage and would have it hover around seven points as the Soaring Eagles would go on to claim a 64-57 victory.
