HOUGHTON, N.Y.-- After an "on the edge of your seat" contest against the Pioneers of Utica College, the Highlanders' women's basketball team claims the 70-64 victory.

Senior Kristen Moose (Swain, NY, Canaseraga HS) opened the game the same way she finished it, sinking a 3-pointer. Just 15 seconds into the game the Highlanders took a 3 point lead, compliments of Moose. In the first half, however, Moose only came out with 3 points. Stephany Ellison (Whitesville, NY, Whitesville HS) and Hannah Manwaring (Barton, NY, Tioga Central ) came out of the half with 5 points each.

The Highlanders found themselves down 32-24 at the end of the first half. At this rate, no one would expect what was to come in the second half.

With just over 6 minutes left in the second half, the Highlanders were 14 points behind the Pioneers. This Pioneer lead would soon dissipate fairly quickly. Moose began to decrease this lead by capitalizing on a layup, two 3-pointers, and a free throw.

With the Pioneers up by only 5 points with 3 minutes 45 seconds left in the game, Ellison sunk 2 layups, helping keep the Highlanders on the Pioneers' tails. It was also during this time that Moose managed to sink a jumper and 3-pointer, minimizing Utica's lead to 1 point.

Moose secured the victory by sinking her 6th and final 3-pointer of the night, as well as 2 free throws. Moose finished the night with 27 points, Ellison with 17 points, and Manwaring with 10 points.

The Highlanders look forward to their next game on Saturday, February 15th against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks, where they will play at home at 4:00pm.
