Stevens Men Ranked 6th in East Region
For the first time this season, the NCAA released its regional basketball rankings. The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team is one of six teams ranked in the East Region.
The NCAA regional rankings will be used in the selection of 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Tournament. They will now be released each Wednesday until the tournament field is announced.
The Stevens Ducks, with an overall record of 15-7 this season, are sixth in the rankings.
The College at Brockport tops the East with a mark of 16-2. SUNY Geneseo (15-3) ranks second with Plattsburgh State (16-4) rounding out the top three.
NYU (15-5) and Hobart (17-5) rank fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Ducks are 15-7 overall and 9-3 in the Empire 8 with three regular-season games left, including two in the conference – at Hartwick College on February 18 and home for Elmira College on February 21. Stevens' next game is at Houghton College Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Ducks ranked in several NCAA categories including No. 23 in total assists and 46th in steals per game, while checking in at No. 52 in assists per game.
Despite sitting atop the Empire 8 standings, the Ducks have a lot of work left to do. Alfred University is tied in the loss column and one game back at 7-3, with Nazareth College checking in at 7-3 as well. Hartwick College is 8-4 in the conference and St. John Fisher College is 7-5.
