Clinton, NY (2-15-14) – Freshman
Rayshawn Scott (Mays Landing, NJ/Buena Regional) leaped to two victories Saturday to lead the Utica College men track and field teams at the Continental Invitational at Hamilton College.
The exhibition competition was held at the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. The field featured five-schools including Daemen College (Buffalo, NY), Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC), SUNYIT, Utica and Host Hamilton. There was no team scoring.
Scott continued his impressive surge with two convincing wins in the long jump and high jump. The freshman standout leaped 1.93 meters in the high and 6.53 in the long.
Sophomore
Frank Volino Jr. (Syracuse, NY/CNS) took home first place in the 60-meters hurdlers with a clock of 8.49 while senior
Andrew Hoover (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) trailed in second with a time of 8.90
Freshman
Nicodemus Gambill (Rochester, NY/East High) placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.12 while sophomore
Kyle Cairns (Midland Park, NJ/Midland ) also tallied a second place finish in the 3000-meter dash clocking a time of 8:58.65. Freshman
Erik Winberg (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), junior
Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) and freshman
Jason Ortiz (Elmsford, NY/Alexander Hamilton) took three of the top four spots in the 1000-meter dash. Winberg placed second (2:38.25, Zlatniski (2:38.26) third and Ortiz fourth (2:47.97).
Throwers
William Bailey (East Granby, CT/East Granby) and
Andrew Russell (Watertown, NY/Watertown) placed third in their respective events as Bailey tossed the weight 12.49 meters and Russell the shot put 13.23 meters.
The Pioneers return to action next Friday, Feb 21st when they head to Rochester, NY for the Orange ad Brown Invite hosted by RIT. The events will be held at the Gordon Field House and are set to begin at 4 p.m.
