Three Pioneers Victorious at Continental Invite

Clinton, NY (2-15-14) - Three Pioneers including senior
Katie Day (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and sophomores
Katherine Pearce (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) and
Sarah Wiatr (Poland, NY/West Canada Valley) posted victories Saturday to lead the Utica College women's track and field teams at the Continental Invitational at Hamilton College.
Day took first in the in the 3,000-meter run (10:51.53) while sophomore
Ashton Villeneuve (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) trailed in second (10:55.14).
In the field, Pearce leaped 1.55 meters in the high jump for her first win of the season while Wiatr, the reigning Empire 8 Athlete of the Week, jumped to a victory in the triple jump with a 11.15 meter tally.
Sophomore's
Nikiya Harris (New York, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and
Megan Christiana (Kingston, NY/Kingston) each placed second in their events as Harris clocked a time of 8.20 in the 60-meter dash while Christiana registered a time of 1:07.48 in the 400-meter dash.
Junior
Savannah Bernardin (Belchertown, NY/Belchertown) finished second in the 5000-meter run (21:40.92) while freshman
Brenna Stewart (Southborough, MA/Algonquin) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a final time of27.38.
Hurler
Alexis Edwards (Ilion, NY/Ilion) placed second and third in the throwing events as she tossed the shot put 11.84 meters taking second and the weight throw 11.98 meters for third.
The exhibition competition was held at the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. The field featured five-schools including Daemen College (Buffalo, NY), Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC), SUNYIT, Utica and Host Hamilton. There was no team scoring.
The Pioneers return to action next Friday, Feb 21st when they head to Rochester, NY for the Orange ad Brown Invite hosted by RIT. The events will be held at the Gordon Field House and are set to begin at 4 p.m.
