Day 2 Empire 8 Results

The second day of competition at the 2014 Empire 8 Championships provided several record setting performances and eight NCAA B-cut times.

The Duck 200-yard freestyle relay team set a championship record with a time of 1:21.98 in the event finals, out-touching Ithaca by two-hundredths of a second (1:22.16). Steven’s time met the NCAA B qualifying standard and was turned in by the team of Tomasz Wolinski, Joshua Lefeber, Shawn Hanak and Tyler Hessler. Alfred placed third (1:23.53).

Lefeber won his second individual title of the meet with a first place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:03.22 – B-cut). His win marks the fifth time in the last six years that a Steven’s swimmer has won the race. Teammate Ravi Sun was second in a B-cut time of 4:04.76 and Hartwick sophomore Ben Detar touched third (4:09.72).

Ithaca junior Lucas Zelehowsky hit a B-cut mark with a 50.20 in the 100-fly final, out-touching teammate Taylor Van Cott (50.49). Stevens junior Jack Rees placed third (50.84).

Ithaca sophomore Adam Zelehowsky successfully defended his title in the 200-yard freestyle as he picked up his second individual E8 crown of the meet after winning the 500-freestyle on Wednesday. He swam a 1:40.71 in the finals, and qualified in 1:39.16 to set a new championship record. Both times were NCAA B qualifying times.  Stevens senior Nick Noga and Wolinski placed second and third, respectively, in times of 1:41.43 and 1:41.67.

The Ithaca team of Connor White, L. Zelehowsky, Van Cott and Peter Knight nabbed a first place B-cut of 3:22.11 in the 400-medley relay.  Steven’s 400-medley relay team was second in the event finals with an NCAA B cut of 3:23.05. Hartwick finished third (3:27.01).
