Ithaca Women Expand Lead on Day 2 2/20/2014 10:05:14 PM Day 2 Empire 8 Results Five NCAA B-cut times were hit on the second day of competition at the 2014 Empire 8 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The Stevens quartet of April Lawson, Nicole Miller, Danielle Caruso and Jenn Rutgledge opened the night with a winning time of 1:36.39 in the 200-yard freestyle relay to give the Ducks their sixth straight win in the event. Ithaca placed second (1:36.55) followed by Alfred (1:37.81). Stevens sophomore Elizabeth Heinbach improved her time and finish from a year ago to earn top honors in the 400-IM final with a B-cut time of 4:29.79. Defending champion Brittany Geyer of Stevens placed second in a B-cut time of 4:33.58 and Ithaca senior Elizabeth Gawrys touched third (4:37.90). Stevens junior Maria McClure carded a B-cut and placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.60). Hartwick senior Lindsay Bierwert was .03 seconds behind (57.63) for a B-cut mark of her own, while Stevens junior Sharon Rooker was third (58.90). Caruso continued to dominate the freestyle events as she won her second Empire 8 title of the meet. This time she won the 200-free with a B-cut time of 1:52.95. Ithaca junior Megan Buisman took second (1:55.29) and Alfred freshman Dylan Staniszewski pocketed third place (1:55.57). Ithaca senior Heather Markus set a meet and league record as she won the 1-meter diving finals with a score of 489.40. Bomber freshman Nickie Griesemer was second in the event with a total of 474.50 and Hartwick senior Lindsay Bowker completed the top three with a score of 443.90. In the night’s final event, Rooker, Geyer, McClure and Lawson teamed for a win and a 3:54.14 time in the 400-medley relay. The Bombers earned second (3:55.21) and Hartwick was close behind in third (3:58.66). Friday’s schedule of events will consist of: 200-yard Butterfly 100-yard Backstroke 100-yard Breaststroke 800-yard Freestyle Relay Men's 1-meter Diving The morning session will start at 10 a.m., while the finals will be held in the evening beginning at 6pm.
