The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team remains in the lead after another strong performance on the third day of competition at the Empire 8 championship meet Friday at the Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion in Ithaca, NY.  The Bombers stand at 586 points, a slim lead over second place Stevens (537).
 
Stevens sophomore Maria McClure opened Friday's action by successfully defending her title in the 200-yard butterfly with a B-cut time of 2:05.51. Hartwick's Lindsay Bierwart touched second (2:09.31) to edge out Alfred’s Carly Watson (2:11.15).
 
Ithaca swept the 100-backstroke led by freshman Grace Ayser with a B-cut time of 57.59. Junior Megan Buisman clocked a B-cut mark of 57.67 and junior Kylie Bangs finished in 57.88.
 
Stevens junior Brittany Geyer placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.99, B-cut) by more than two seconds a head of runner-up Clare Nelson of Hartwick, who swam 1:07.18.  Stevens’ April Lawson placed third (1:07.90).
 
In the final event of the day 3 finals, Ayer, Erin Hacket, Buisman and Elizabeth Gawrys teamed up for Ithaca to produce for a winning time of 7:44.61 to win the 800-free relay. Stevens finished second by less than two seconds (7:46.57) and Hartwick took third (7:49.53). 
 
Saturday's schedule of events will consist of:
100-yard Freestyle
200-yard Backstroke
200-yard Breaststroke
400-yard Freestyle Relay
1,650-yard Freestyle
Women's 3-Meter Diving
 
The morning session will start at 10 a.m., while the finals will be held in the evening beginning at 6pm.
