E8 Women's Basketball Tournament Field Set
On the final weekend of the Empire 8 regular season the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks and the St. John Fisher Cardinals have clinched a berth into the post season, joining Ithaca College and Hartwick College.
Ithaca and Hartwick finished for a tied at the top of the standings with a 13-1 conference record. The two teams split head to head in the regular season and defeated every other conference team twice. The third criteria is road record verse conference opponents which they both finished with an idential record of 6-1, resulting in a comparison of NCAA strength of schedule index within region ultimately giving the Bombers the advtange and the top seed.
Stevens clinched the third seed with a win over Elmira on Friday, leaving the No. 4 seed to be decided based on a win or loss by Elmira today. The Soaring Eagles (7-7 in E8), fell to Hartwick on the road giving St. John Fisher (8-6) the No. 4 seed.
The two semifinals matches will take place on Friday, Feb. 28 at Ithaca. The two winners will meet on Saturday, March 1 in the Empire 8 Championship with the winner earning an automatic bid and advancing to the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.
